Hello,
Today we'll talk about the 21th episode of the spring season 2012 anime series Hyouka that dedicates an entire episode to the complex relationship between Satoshi and Mayaka.
I was quite irritated by Satoshi's confession to Houtarou in this episode because, in the end, he is just playing around with Mayaka's pure feelings.
He is a self-centered child who doesn't care about how his actions will affect the surrounding people (like Eru's trauma in this episode).

Putting Satoshi aside, I liked how Houtarou is slowly growing accustomed to manage Eru's personality and impulses. I think that he's the best guy to control such an emotional girl.
I can see them slowly, but surely growing up to be a couple in a way that looks realistic to my eyes. Being "mostly" realistic is, after all, one of the charms of this series.
Yes, being Mayaka is suffering and I really can't understand how she manages to continue and love that hateful guy. He doesn't deserve her great personality and beauty.
I wonder what was the content of the call made by Satoshi in the middle of the night at the very end of the episode.
While I'm sure that the recipient was Mayaka, I'm unsure if his call was a "thanks for the chocolate" or a "I accept your feelings". I would prefer the second, but somehow I'm more leaning on the first...

Next episode seems to be a Houtarou centric one (we don't even see Eru in any of the preview shots), following his adventures around the country-side on a bike.
I'm not sure who is the one ordering him to do these errands (his sister or Eru?), but I really wonder how they managed to convince him.
I mean, it's Houtarou we're talking about! Even if he improved a bit, he is still the same guy who tries to avoid useless work as much as possible...

Concluding, this was another entertaining episode for Hyouka and I hope they'll manage to give a great ending to this series.
See you soon,
