Today we'll talk about the 16th episode of the spring season anime series named Hyouka that start to shed some light over the school festival mystery and how everything seem connected.
I was quite surprised about how they connected Mayaka's manga sidestory together with the main mystery without making it look forced. Hopefully we'll get an happy end for her as well...
It seems that the writers/illustrators of the manga that Mayaka love are strictly linked to this school mystery and there are high chances that even the president of the student council (that was "supposedly" part of the team) may be involved...
They also somewhat "resolved" Satoshi's internal conflict in this episode, making him understand the massive difference in deduction skills between him and Houtarou.
It was amusing to watch him go "Kininarimasu" (well, sort of) over Houtarou and hopefully he will now stop this pointless "challenging game" against Houtarou because it's a risk to their friendship.
By the way, I'm quite curious about Houtarou's sister because she does seem to know everything about everything! I can't believe it was a mere coincidence that she gave Houtarou that manga stating that "it could prove useful to him".
As you can see from this short video scene, Houtarou is slowly learning how to control Eru's curiosity to the point of being able to break her "Kininarimasu" power twice in two episodes.
This look still a pyrrhic victory for Houtarou, because all he's doing is only postponing his inevitable downfall, because sooner or later Eru will manage to get some kind of "resistance" to this kind of attacks.
Especially because this kind of trick can be used only once before Eru and Mayaka will get suspicious about Houtarou's real intentions...
Judging from the preview segment next episode is likely going to be the last episode in the student festival arc that will hopefully explain everything behind this mystery and resolve the remaining side stories.
I'm a bit worried about Eru's body condition, because she really looked tired/sick in this episode. I wonder if it is too much stress or simply a bad cold...
I'm also looking forward to the episode where they'll finally show Houtarou's sister face as I'm clueless about why they're continuing to "censor" her face. Is there a real reason or it's just teasing?
Concluding, Hyouka is slowly approaching the end of this very long student festival arc and I'm very interested to know how they'll continue the story as soon as this arc is done..
