Accel World - Chiyuri! Betrayal is not a choice here! Big cliffhanger?!

Hello,

Today we'll talk about the 17th episode of the spring season 2012 anime series named Accel World that surprises us with an unbelievable cliffhanger and a two week "wait-time" to get the resolution.

Yes, I wasn't really expecting Chiyuri to come out in the open and help Noumi recover his wounds with her healing ability, but I suppose that was a necessary step in order to let Haru recover his proper flight ability.

I mean, if Noumi get defeated and lose brain burst, what would happen to Haru's wings and the other skills that Noumi stole? Will they come back naturally or be erased permanently?

Chiyuri is likely thinking that the latter is the most probable outcome and decided to help Noumi until she can convince him to give the flight power back to our protagonist.

However, I'm a bit uncertain about how she will convince Noumi to do that. Noumi looks extremely attached to that flight ability and unless she can give something of equal value... (someone said her healing power? :P)

I'll be honest, Chiyuri acted till now as the perfect friend/lover for Haru and Taku and I don't think she'll betray them in ANY circumstances, even if she was about to lose something important to her.

As you can see Haru now has the incredible power of a jetpack and can fight equally against Noumi!? So this was the awesome flying ability that Skyraker gained with pain and years of hard image training?

No, seriously are they joking on me? I was expecting everything, but not such a mechanical and unimpressive way to resolve the flight limitation of Haru.

Well, I suppose I should be thanking them for not pulling out a "I can fly by simply imagining it! It's simple!" bullshit!

Just as I said in the title, next week will ignore the cliffhanger altogether and focus on Kuroyukihime's travel and the betrayal of someone in her inner circle of friends.

I speculate that they're assassins coming from one of the remaining kings army, but I wonder if they even stand a chance against a level 9 player like Kuroyukihime.

As you may remember, even the yellow king (another level 9 player) wasn't exactly "winning" against her in the Chrome Disaster story arc.

Concluding, Accel World is back to deliver interesting episodes one after another and I hope they'll continue this way in the future as well!

I'll continue to watch and cover this series weekly.

hmm taku is fast thought he was slow guess that make him an all rounder instead of focusing on attack and defense more but unless he excel at all of those stat he would probably lose to a specialist of 1 type haru is a perfect example...

and his lose is contributed by haru but then again maybe he will lose either way but sure as hell would be better if haru didn't say attack now. then again if the opponent is using unknown move it is easy to panic. but in my opinion taku should just see the situation first and use a low level special move instead of going for the finisher in an instant. it is too risky if you fail you would be a living punching bag for your opponent in my opinion...

hmm what else that is kind of sad to see haru in and taku in that position hope sky laker and kurohime don't get in that kind of situation....

hmm just realise you could change the type of battle in the middle albeit the opponent must agree to change the battle type...

and if noumi didn't have haru wing the battle would stay on land and haru should destroy noumi considering he only got one hand left... but then the abominable snowman(noumi) decided to be awesome and be a little thief and use both wing and flamethrower at the same time and noumi isn't exactly invincible he considering there is physics in accel world shouldn't be as fast as haru considering his size...so taku lightning cyan pike should be able to hit him.... but of course even if the battle gotten that far he would still lose considering the bloody magician(noumi) would pull something up his sleeve again (what else...)but we got to see the power of sky raker gale thruster and combine with haru piercing hand ability he should be enough to take noumi down but haru health magically go down while i was pretty sure he didn't get hit before... and wow taku can't take a punch but is fully capable of holding bathing in fire?

well got to expect the little idiot have a backup plan there is no way he would choose to risk fighting 2 person at the same time considering his personality.... it is not exactly chiyuri fault fully who is the 2 protagonist that decide to let noumi lay down to rest instead of kicking him and finishing him off

Taku is likely the perfect supporting avatar due to his resilience, skills and balanced statistics just as you said. I wonder how powerful he can get as soon as he raises in level...

Well, Haru and Taku have the plot armor on their side so using the finishing move is the best idea here to destroy Noumi's hope of challenging them back. It did work out so its all good?!

This is supposedly a game at heart, so I suppose all these things are legit options as long as there is agreement between the players!

Gale Thruster (basically a colorful jetpack) was a quite lame way to give back flying power to Haru in order to fight Noumi, but I suppose it was the best way to do it between the various choice they had.

Chiyuri is likely preparing to stab Noumi in the back. Mark these words here, she isn't betraying Haru or Taku. I trust her from the bottom of the heart!

but nether less a jack of all trade like taku although good stat can't hit haru thanks to his speed and haru almost win if it were a normal fight but it isn't and haru got suprised by the barrage of missile out of nowhere this is considering a level 1 against a level 4....

yeah it work out well... in my opinon taku panic and rush thing using his lightning cyan pike instead of low level finisher though to be fair he doesn't know an attack could be absorbed but still or incarnation system/reality warping accel world style but still...

noumi is someone you could never agreed with... he would change the rule and cheat so much it can only benefited him

you know since sky raker cut her own leg maybe it is located in your leg instead of bloody jetpack and when you move it basically accelerate your movement to an incredible near super human level but hey producer choice... and back to that if taku didn't lose his blade haru could pierce or cut through his arm like a butter... in fact after the first attack it pretty much proven if that is a normal hand instead of taku blade haru should and probably would cut his hand rather easily...other than that haru should aim for the neck or eye it's cruel yes but you got a blade for a hand... and noumi is actually smart enough to develop that tactic he could fly for an indefinite time with the stage destruction bonus but he is far from invincible...

and like i said it is not exactly chiyu fault say if i were haru (i wouldn't be charge with going into girl bathroom but either attempted murder or murder)i would kick dusk taker while he is still down why would you let your opponent rest instead of finishing them...

Well, yes level 1 against level 4 is extremely unfair!

Yes, but its the system that manages these things and Noumi has no way to cheat this time around.

To be honest, I think that the red eye is Dusk Taker weak points. It just stand out too much!

Well, we'll see in two weeks what will happen with this story. I have hopes that Chiyuri will save everyone and make Haru recover his wings.

yet haru manage nonetheless right?to defeat someone with higher stat overall focus on which stat is the best for you unless they outdo you even in that stat then you are doomed in my opinion. speed is the most important since no matter what unless you somehow invincible shield to protect you from all harm it is better to dodge and attack with lethality well that is just my opinion...

yeah good to know the creator create an impregnable defense right.... i mean it not like he somehow manage to hid his name from matching list...

dodge the first attack punch a few time aim for the leg remove his balance... sword to disable one of his arm and defense and aim for the i don't know possibly the gigantic red thing that cover his face and if he block use the knee then stab him in the eye... or somewhere around torso if he block use your other hand and while he flew backward stab with the sword... and while he feel the pain aim for the other hand considering haru speed he should be able to do this ....

yeah maybe he shouldn't heal the opponent in the first place...

Well, it depends on your avatar, many avatars aren't simply good enough to focus on speed, but yes in Haru's case speed is the best choice.

He did not hide his name in the match list, they explained it in the latest episodes. He just never connected to the network in the first place...

his wish is faster than anyone how will the incarnation system react if the wish were to say "i wish for an invincible sword that can cut through everything in an instant"?

well it is just an opinion out of the 3 in all fight speed seem to be the most important since you can't give damage to something you can't hit and i prefer reflex and lethality in attack
rather than pure brute force punch...

sigh...the man who wishes to believe in the good in all bishoujos against the man who wishes to believe in the evil in all anime characters. Let the battle begin.

As for the wings bit, I think Noumi's comment that the transfer is permanent makes me believe that it's more likely the abilities go with him as well. You'd have to think of the implications...with all the powers he's taken, I'm sure some of them would have to be transferred to another part of the world or something. Just doesn't seem practical. Even with globalnet, they could be disconnected or already out of the game or something.......just too messy

Yes, if that's the truth then Noumi can't get defeated until he relinquished Haru's wings. Haru simply can't lose his trademark power or the series would lose part of his charm. That implies Chiyuri's action were "forced"...right?

True, but your explanation doesn't factor in that thing Noumi mentions in the battle about newer generation Burst Linkers being different somehow. Considering how new Chiyu is to the game, there's no way that's a coincidence. And as I've said before, she has plenty of reasons to go dark.

Isn't that just "wrong"? She must try to achieve her objectives, not break them....

I'm unsure if we should trust Noumi's words, new generations always think that they're "different" from the old ones after all...

He almost made it sound like they were organized, and that was the reason he knew the incarnate system. Sounds like they could have assimilated her. Even if they're not different in the game, they could still create a group and call themselves different.

Well I would assume girls like her have fragile minds that can easily be convinced to believe that what they are doing is actually helping when it isnt...

But can you discount the other possibility? The game has manipulated the newer members somehow to twist them? It may not be likely, but it's certainly possible

That's partly correct.

In the manga and anime, she basically SAVED his life by pushing him out of the way from a car driven by the bully from the episode / chapter that got busted for bullying - by Haru and Hime - that was about to kill him. Physical Burst is what it was called; it only lasts a few seconds, but she did tell him that she loves him, and would do anything to protect him (more or less)

If Noumi is representative of the 'new breed' of people in the game, it's not really boding well for the integrity of the game or the people he's talking about. He truly doesn't care to recognize that the two worlds are separate, and is more than willing to use Accel to enhance what he does in 'real' space, and then use, well, crime (extortion, abuse, theft) to further his ability to continue to abuse the Accel.

It's...well just another way to use this system. In the end the creator did leave these possibilities open for a reason and I don't think he's wrong in using them to gain some advantage.
What I feel wrong is blackmailing people like he's doing with Chiyuri/Haru.

I don't really know about using the excuse of 'this is possible, so it must be ok in the spirit of the game'. We see that in any computer software, there's bugs and mechanics exploits that allow people to break both the spirit and the rules of the game. Usually those are patched out, but we haven't seen anything about patching in AW. And given the way it's spread, and the secrecy of the writer, it's really unlikely there's even the possibility of patching.

So yeah, things are possible, but I think it's a stretch to say that it's possible for a reason. It's also possible that the creator didn't think about the possibility of a complete sociopath like Noumi gaining access to AW.

Well, Accel World's brain burst program must be server based in order to work together with the virtual reality system (and allow the physical full burst). This implies that both forced uninstalls and forced updates are possible, but I'm not sure how free the writer is at this point in the story...

Everyone who has a strong trauma should be able to enter Accel World, but nobody really stated some rules apart from "try and see if it work out...".

The way I see it is, Chiyu never liked Brain Burst, and in helping Noumi, it forces them to uninstall it. That's the only reason I can think for her to help him. Having a secondary agenda like trying to get Haru's wing's back seems to cliche.

Okay, i expected Chiyu to do something stupid when she suddenly appears like that. The reason i can think of is maybe because even if they defeat that bastard, there's no assurance that they'll be safe in real life too, since Nomi has those evidence he's talking about, he can still use that to destroy them, Chiyu just wants to protect them, and there's no way she'll betray her friends..
But if you ask me, i still don't like what she did..

If they manage to make him lose brain burst, the rest will come by itself. Without that acceleration power Noumi is just another whiny kid that could get easily beated.

We'll see if Chiyuri has some secrets under her sleeve, everything looks blurred to my eyes atm and I hope that she has some important reason for doing that...
