Guilty Crown Lost Christmas OVA - Promising story. Carol!

Hello,

Today we'll talk about the OVA episode of the anime series Guilty Crown that is bundled together with the prequel visual novel titled Guilty Crown - Lost Christmas.

I wasn't much anticipating this visual novel, after the not-so-good experience with the original anime series, but I have to say that after watching this OVA my opinion changed drastically.

In these 14 minutes, they managed to fit all that Guilty Crown failed in deliver in 22 episodes. Good action, a very cool protagonist and a charming main heroine named Carol.

Guilty Crown Lost Christmas

Watching simply the small OVA doesn't give much information about what will be the focus of the story, but we can say for sure that it is "vaguely" inspired to the very old "Christmas Carol" story that many of you may remember.

This is confirmed by the fact that the "ghosts" trying to kill our protagonist Scrooge are called "Present", "Past" and "Yet to come" (Future). The main heroine is also called "Carol", so well...:)

By the way, in the last couple of seconds we also hear the protagonist saying "Our next target is Ouma Kurosu" so we may end up knowing more about the personality of Shu's father as well.

Well, the void extraction scenes aren't much different from what we were used to in Guilty Crown, and Carol seems to posses a powerful sword-type weapon just like Inori.

The very difference between the two heroines is that Carol seems to have a very lively personality and is voiced by the great Kana Asumi (Popura Taneshima from Working).

I'm unsure about what is her real personality though, because she seems to change completely voice in some more serious scenes at the end...

Guilty Crown Lost Christmas

After watching this OVA, I decided to play the visual novel as well and I suggest you to do the same. It could end up to be what we were expecting the original anime series to be in the first place.

I'll start in the next couple of days together with the other visual novel I'm already playing and you can follow the story feed from here as soon as I start playing.

Concluding, Guilty Crown Lost Christmas is a promising Visual novel series that I'm looking forward to play in the near future and this OVA is a good addition to the Guilty Crown anime experience.

urgh...why does it have to be a visual novel? Now I'm gonna have trouble playing it because visual novels are boring to go through (I SAID IT!!). And with Guilty Crown there seems to be so much potential for an actual battle-oriented style of gameplay.

I might read up more on Scrooge's powers...they don't seem to make sense to me. At least compared to Shu.

Maybe they'll do some action game as well? I won't bet on it, but I heard of a PSP game for Horizon so this is still a possibility...

He seems far more overpowered than Shu and that's for sure. But well if he's a test subject maybe they tried on him various combinations of "add-on" leaving him in this state?

They need more action game >.> For a Guilty Crown story, visual novel doesn't make sense to me.

He seems less powerful than Shu to be honest...like less control of his powers. I mean, not that Shu had a lot of control...maybe just more consequences for failure?

Nitro+ managed to pull off great action series in the past like Full Metal Daemon Muramasa or Gekkou no Carnevale (give them a shot too), so I have hope in this works.

Shu transformed in a killing machine after using a void at the beginning, so well...Scrooge at least is able to keep reason for now...

...also (Carol > Inori). Am I right?

To be fair, I think Scrooge was already a killing machine...

Carol's sword puts Inori's to shame...and she actually has a personality.

Mhn...debatable. Scrooge still has reason and is trying to achieve something in his life. Shu on the other side was just flown away by people around him and had no reason to exist during the whole series.

Can you think about a 22 episodes series with Scrooge as protagonist instead of Shu?


Yeah, Carol is completely superior on pretty much all sides against Inori. Voice, Sword, personality. (in beauty I think them to be on the same level though...
)

Pretty sure at episode 14, he'd just say "what? we're still doing this?" and proceed to destroy the entire GHQ.

...and that sounds something worth watching instead of all that damned whining of Shu. Everything could've turned better in that way...>_<

Still, I don't think Scrooge and Gai would've ever become friend. Can you imagine it?

The VN in terms of production quality is the best you'll find in any VN till today.
The story is pretty good and explains most of the dark unexplained points behind the original series.

Very good one, they spend a lot of money to use such a big quantity of effects/songs/quality. The only downside is that's 4-5 hours long, I already finished it.

kind of expected that from your other post...

though if the original is as good as this one badass main character and a good story i wouldn't mind watching it. the battle scene isn't as as i hoped for but it is still good i guess ...

and fanservice in the middle of a battle...

I must admit the supernatural genre of anime is one of the most puzzling to me, i am not sure how it got to be so popular but i suppose it has its roots in the folk tales, Kabuki theatre and some other generic strands of folk culture....but in the end, girls+sharp edged weapons of all kinds+evil male overlords+bizarre rituals+lotsablood+screams, moans and death galore seems to be pretty much the extent of it ....  i was not very impressed by the series, this one or most of them, but i may give this OVA a try based on your opening post. I will see how this weeks lot of new episodes goes, some of them are delayed due to the Olympics including my current favorite Chocolate...  well hmm, i will see about this one.

Unfortunately, I agree with you that this series is not for people who don't like violence or supernatural elements because there will be plenty of them all around, the game (of this prequel) is even more drastic compared to the anime.

You probably are missing a lot by not playing visual novels, because there are really a lot of shows completely different from what you expect the normal "japanese fantasy story" is. Give them a shot if you have extra time and japanese reading knowledge.

I wasn't expecting much from Lost Christmas either, but it just blew me away. The characters and story were everything that the Guilty Crown series was lacking. If only they had gone down this path, my impression of the series would've been so much better.
