Today we'll talk about the fourth episode of the summer season 2012 anime series Campione that concludes its first arc with the complete defeat of Athena in battle against our protagonist.
Just as I predicted last week, Athena ended up surviving the battle against Godou and is now most likely going to become part of his harem just like Erica and the others.
I was a bit confused by Erica's statement as she doesn't seem annoyed by the presence of other girls around Godou as long as she's the "first one" in his heart. Is this a "yes, go for the harem route please!" flag?
I have to say that I liked the part where Godou started explaining Athena's backstory. She was actually the queen of all gods before being dethroned by Zeus and split into Medusa, Athena and the whole "dragon" concept.
It was quite a sad story for such a cute looking character like Athena and I wonder if I was the only one preferring Athena in loli/young form compared to her adult version...
By the way, I don't think that the prophecy everyone is talking about can be averted this easily, so there must be someone else plotting to destroy the world. Maybe Zeus? Or a Campione owning Zeus's powers?
After watching this scene I started to wonder how cheap this series can become while copying Fate Stay Night. I mean, this is clearly the combination of Shirou's reality marble and Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon.
What power are they going to give our protagonist next? Maybe some chain capable to stop gods or maybe a flying starship for our protagonist to control?
Sarcasm aside, I don't like when anime series try to achieve popularity by copying this heavily from another series. They have a charming cast and a nice concept, just invent something new for your protagonist to wield and everything will be fine!
Judging from the preview segment narration (am I the only one hating the narrator's voice?), next episode will switch back to some romantic comedy content and maybe some backstory building as well.
I'm expecting a lot of battles between the three heroines already introduced (Ena, Liliana and Erica) and maybe the introduction of the fourth member of the harem as well...
After that? Well, I expect our main characters to somehow join forces with Athena in order to face the other remaining Campione. I'm not sure about what will be the driving reason though.
Concluding, Campione continues to be an entertaining anime series and I hope they'll continue with the same quality of content in the future arcs as well.
