Hyouka - Mayaka and Eru in some cute detective outfits?!

Hello,

Today we'll talk about the 12th episode of the spring season 2012 anime series named Hyouka that start a new arc revolving around the cultural festival now happening in Houtarou's school.

It was a nice change of pace to see the story being less mystery-centered and more focused on the common school life of our four main characters.

To be honest, I really wonder how Mayaka managed to make the wrong order and shift from 30 copies (reasonable number) to 200 copies (absolutely absurd) of their essay...

...but well, I suppose that Houtarou will find a solution in order to sell all (or at least a good percentage) the volumes at once in the next episode.

Am I the only one loving the new ending animation? While the first one was more sexy, this second one seems to focus a lot on the "cute" factor.

The song isn't the best, but I just can't stop watching Mayaka in that cute detective outfit. She's simply too cute to be true! *_*

This small video scene was really amusing, I loved pretty much all the costumes she tried out in this short timeframe, but to be honest I'm still clueless about which is the better for her personality.

By the way, it was cute to see how easy is to distract Eru from her duties as club leader. She managed to lose hours strolling around the school without obtaining anything of value to resolve her club's crisis.

She looked a serious and focused girl in the previous episodes, but it seems that she's just a normal girl after all...:P

Judging from the preview, next episode will bring closure to all the sub stories introduced till now. The first one is the drama inside the manga club where Mayaka is somehow disliked by the other girls.

I'm not sure about the reasons behind this, but I suppose its because of her attachment to the club leader. Jealousy between girls is an extremely dangerous thing...:|

The second one will be the books sale, and I'm speculating that Tomoe's (Houtarou's sister) pen will be the solution that will link everything together one piece at a time.

Concluding, Hyouka continues to be an extremely entertaining series and I hope that the newly introduced story arc will be as good as the others.

Not sure, but I definitely think it will have some kind of connection. Obviously its a mere speculation so it may turn out to be a wrong info.

Seems odd for a mystery show to introduce a small detail, then not use it...I feel like that's almost mandatory.

Give me back my ending song. The new one isn't bad, but in comparison, it's just not the same level.

Chitanda's distractions only increase her cuteness. Dress up is the most fun and her swimsuit is in the OVA so everything is fine.

Of course it's cute, it just doesn't match to the cuteness of ED1. What you find sexy, I found cute.

It's just like any OVA, not at all important yet I'll watch it anyway. Well, swimming is always fun.

I LOVED the new ED..it is superb..and the cosplay was PERFECT..just what i had hoped and dreamed about....i love the maid, no questions.

did you see..Houtarou's sister is BACK? we got to see her ... most of her except for her face...that was a stunning event and there was NO, absolutely NO discussion of it before, during or after....and what was with that broken pen she gave to Houtarou? amazing way they use sudden events in this series, it is great. As for the quest for help for the over order, well she found nothing, and got totally distracted and lost and that was funny, but a bit frustrating too, but that brought back some of the "what is going on here" feeling from some other classics like the last episode of the second season of The Melancholy of Haruhi S..... a puzzling mystery but hopefully more will be explained.

I loved seeing the daily life at school, after the many many school festivals i have seen in Anime this was one of the most in depth and detailed views of any that i have ever seen and i really enjoyed that..felt very real.. this is a remarkable series and it keeps getting more and more so. Now i cant stand waiting another week!!!

that ending is really cool.

Detective is the best for me (the ED one), so cute!

Well that's the main problem here. Why not showing the face of his sister? we were all waiting to see how beautiful she is and they trolled us instead. >_<

the OVA shows HOW his sister came home, otherwise it is a random appearance..and it also gives a LOT of development among the four main characters, if you miss the OVA you will miss a LOT Of what the writers intend with the series I think, and I found it to be one of the most wonderful episodes of the series yet for many reasons. There is a lot in it. I am sorry about the quality but that is their decision re marketing the BD. I am very glad i watched it. It shows a lot about his sister too.

Well this episode really was interesting and they really did fully immerse us in the School Festival, i am trying to remember if they had any food booths or not, i better watch it again.

I am eager to see if the sister gets involved in the story more, i have a feeling she will be.

I went back and watched it again, carefully adjusting the colour and saturation of the art and it is stunning visually and the way they fill the scenes so beautifully and tell a complex story in very fun subtle steps, i absolutely love seeing Eru wander about the Festival, she is so much fun to watch, if she and Houtarou were not so much intended for each other i would snatch her away, she is sooooo cute.... and interesting as a character. Big Sister is fun too, she is clearly planing something devious ...we can see that it runs in the family.... and I got so enchanted with the story i will have to watch it again or wait until Sunday to see if there are any cafe's or restaurants.... the intrigue of the Manga club is puzzling ...we need more data to know what is up... and i am feeling better about Satoshi, he is an important character in the way he helps move the story along and he is a scatterbrained kid ...... so i forgive him for the ways i was not liking him last week. Mayaka is certainly an interesting characters too, she is quite complex and has depths to her, and i do like the way they allow her to act in her own ways in dealing with things...the interactions with her and Satoshi are almost as much fun as those with Eru and Houtarou.... i cant wait for sunday..i want more NOW>

The company doing this series is one of the best of the anime world, its reasonable to have such visuals and style. They really can create incredible sceneries and characters.

I think Mayaka will find a way to solve her problems with the manga club...she's a good girl!

Every time i really take time and study an episode of Hyouka I am more impressed, just looking carefully at the OP, there are many scenes that show very sophisticated visual ideas, the combination of a very good music track and the way the segments of the opening animation sets the mood for Houtarou, a lonely, reserved boy who is opening up bit by bit to love and friendship, while finding himself, as are his three close friends.... and the others in the series, everyone is in a time of transition and growth, even some of the protagonists like Irisu, and even Elder Sister.... lots to enjoy.
