Accel World - Yuniko joined your party! Who's next?!

Hello,

Today we'll talk about the 12th episode of the spring season 2012 anime series Accel World that "concludes" the Chrome Disaster arc and confirm Yuniko's addition to the main cast.

Why "concludes" you say? Well, because everything seems to imply that Haru is the one who got the Chrome Disaster cursed armor in his inventory.

This opens up a lot of new possibilities for the story to develop. What will happen in the future if Haru is faced with impending death? Will he decide to use the armor to protect Kuroyukihime?

Just as someone pointed out in the last post, the yellow king is still alive and kicking and probably lost only few points to that Chrome Disaster's ambush.

Everything seems to imply that kings aren't easy to damage from other non-king players. I wonder how well would Haru fare against a king-class avatar...

We also got to know that players using a "Chrome Disaster Infected" avatar doesn't lose completely reason as they're still able to think and prepare tactical moves.

As you can see from this short video sequence, Yuniko's tsundere personality can be simply summed up as "pure win" and I'm really starting to wonder if she's a "rival" for Kuroyukihime...

I mean, she's biologically a lot younger than anyone else in the main cast, but she's at the same time an old lady if we count the time passed in the accelerated world...

By the way, Haru's reaction to the homemade cookies gift was a bit too emotional, but I suppose that was the first time for him to receive something like that.

Next episode will focus on a Chiyuri related story that will likely mark her introduction to the accelerated world (just like we predicted in the previous episodes) together with Haru, Taku, Yuniko and Kuroyukihime.

After watching the preview segment, I'm growing a bit worried about her well-being. Yes, because there is a scene in which she looks extremely distressed/shocked. What could've happened to make her end up in that state?

I'm also quite curious about who is the green avatar owner. Is he the new green king (assuming the old one died somehow...) or simply another random character?

Concluding, Accel World is now halfway through the story (12 episodes remaining) and is still one of the best series that aired in the spring season 2012.

I'm extremely looking forward to watch and blog about the future episodes as well!

I'll give it to you - now it really seems that Chiyuri will end up acquiring Brain Burst after all. At least that was the impression I got from the preview (and also that the green avatar would be hers). On the other hand, it can still be a misleading preview, though I'm inclined to think it is not.

It doesn't seem like Haru simply "has" the armor, as it wasn't in his inventory - it seemed to be already equipped instead. And that's something to be aware off, as we still don't know exactly what kind of changes it implies in the real world and the degree of consciousness one maintains in the accelerated world. I'm taking it it needs some kind of thirst for power (regardless of the motives) to be activated, hence nothing happening just yet, but it's totally possible for Haru having one of those moments, since despite what he said this episode, he still has an insecure and inconsistent personality after all.

Kuroyukihime is as interesting as ever - seeing her trading blows with Chrome Disaster was awesome, but her attitude about it was even better. I'm looking forward to more development on her part, as she is right now my favorite character in Accel World. It was also nice to know that being defeated in the Unlimited Field only has a knockout penalty for a while, for I think I'd be sorely disappointed if Taku was shut off for good, since he's a character that has grown on me lately.

Accel Worrld is becoming really interesting...

Not sure, because Marth just down here said that there is another main character to introduce so that green avatar may be the last character avatar? If that's true what will be Chiyuri's role?!

That sound even more scary, because it implies Haru is just a timed bomb that could go berserk on his friends at anytime. Still we know too little about this cursed armor to make speculations, it may not affect much the avatar in his real life after all...

She's my favourite as well, but I think my reasons are far away from yours. At least we matched up in terms of character...

Yes, it would've been too sad for Taku to be out of the games already, I wonder how many points you lose each knock-out though.

I see. Then it might not be her... Which is nice for me, since I'd like her to remain normal after all. I'm pretty sure she's not the Green King though, since there was no mention of any of the other kings being replaced, and considering that Black Lotus is a wanted individual in the accelerated world, any event concerning the defeat of a king would have caused an uproar - not something they could be ignorant about. But well... We'll see it next week^^

Yeah, it may not. But this episode, despite explaining Yuniko's relationship with Chris(?), wasn't too clear about it. Either way, there isn't much doubt regarding the fact that the armor is indeed already equipped in Haru...

I don't think our reasons match either xD But oh, well, it's good enough that we have the same opinion, so the motives can be discarded for now^^

Agreed, Accel World has surpassed my expectations. It had been rather sub-par so far (besides the first episode, that is), but it has turned into one of the best this season in the last few weeks (only third to Fate/Zero and Jormungand, imo), especially now that they seem to be solving the worst complain I had with it. They've shifted from revealing information instantaneously whenever it is relevant, which ends up being annoying for feeling both too convenient and spoon-fed, to giving enough for us viewers to make deductions ourselves while awaiting the proper explanation, which is tons better than keeping us in the dark. This Calamity Armor arc was truly a step up in quality for this series.

Chiyuri need to be more involved in the story! It's a shame she is at the sideline without any role at the moment.

Agreed that the death of another king would've caused a big uproar in the community and I really wonder what will be the reaction as soon as Kuroyukihime hunts down another king.

Ouch, I hope Kuroyukihime doesn't have to kill Haru in the end or something. That would be too sad to bear...

Now we'll see what they have in store for us, because there are still 12 episodes to go and I'm really unsure they'll be able to give us a proper conclusion without having to delve into anime original material. (the novels are still running after all...)

I still think she'd be better of as a side character. For whatever reason, she annoys me whenever she's on screen. She doesn't seem to be very bright either...

No idea... But they already want her head, isn't that so? I can't see how it could get much worse xD

I don't think this is the style of series to end like that. Though it would be a nice surprise if it proved me wrong. (I'm not saying that I want it to happen, it's not like I'll be disappointed if it doesn't. But I wouldn't find it bad either.)

Yeah, the novels are still running, and as I haven't touched these, I have no idea if there is a good point to stop. But I do know I don't want an anime original ending. Please just no...

Well, at the moment all the kings are working separately, but they may "work together" to defeat the common enemy if the risk increase...

Well, yes, an anime original ending is something I would rather avoid on this series, because I know it'll end up badly...

Oh, great. I... actually hadn't talked about it (kind dumb on my part). As good in battle as she seemed to be, it's impossible to defeat all the other kings. But still, given that there are 6 legions (6 kings), if Kuroyukihime kills one, that leaves 4 besides her. If Yuniko keeps herself allied with Nega Nebulus, than it would be a more reasonable 3 on 2 situation. And you know what... I'd actually love to see the plot progress on such a direction^^

Anime original endings are usually bad... That's something I know by experience.

Well, looks cool to think about a 3 vs 2 king battle so I'm quite looking forward to a possible similar development. I also wonder what kind of role Haru could possibly have against a level 9 avatar.
He really wasn't that impressive till now...

He has leveled up quite fast, though, so I think he'll be higher than level 4 when such a situation comes. But yeah, so far, besides the main character mandatory prowess (sometimes requiring a bit of suspense of disbelief), he hasn't been that impressive. He still seems to be an above average player for his level, so if he levels up, with such a nice unique ability backing him up, I can see he being useful in fights against stronger opponents.

Agreed, he can grow up maybe to level 6-7 in some months and be more useful in battle.
I just hope it won't end up in a fight between them. I would not like to see a final battle between Kuroyukihime and Haru...>_<

Based on my analysis of the OP and ED, the green avatar seems to belong to the final character in the main cast, some sort of maid/waitress. Not sure if it belongs to her or Chiyu based on the preview. I'm not even sure if Chiyu gets an avatar...Still, that green avatar can't be the king because the king is that giant green dude that's supposed to be all defense or something.

I wasn't completely sure if Haru would get the armor. It seemed like a way to develop his character, but the OP shows him fighting the armor, so I disregarded the possibility. But I still called it going to main cast, so meh...

Yes, that was what I thought as well, but we have to consider that it was a very old image from Kuroyukihime's memory. Maybe the green king died already and got changed?

Well, at least it confirms your theory that the Chrome Disaster Incident will be a recurring theme of the series! Happy?

Gonna go with the OP again...it just looks a lot like Chiyu is meant to be left out. Maybe to cause some tension of sorts.

Oh...I said that the green king was that guy from my OP analysis. There's a scene where they show all of the kings.

The cursed armor was pretty much expected to Haru.

Although, I don't really see it being there in the inventory. I mean, it would probably just spawn right there from your inventory once you "hunger" or something. Just a gut feeling lol
