Hello,
Today we'll talk about the 10th episode of the spring season 2012 anime series Hyouka that finally manages to interest me with some well-thought mystery and character development.
This episode supposedly contained the solution to the closed-room mystery shown in the movie. It was a nice solution thought by Houtarou, but was "too simple" to be the correct one...
In fact, we get the revelation right at the end that something was overlook by Houtarou during his deductions. Something extremely important...

One thing that striked me in this episode was Satoshi's reaction to the slow change that Houtarou is experiencing in these last couple of weeks. Yes, talking about that gloomy expression he had for some seconds...
He looked like depressed, maybe because the lazy Houtarou started to look active to the point that he may end up "not needing" the help of his database skills anymore.
By the way, was I the only one sad that Eru had nearly zero screentime in this episode? She's like an energetic small animal that I can't live without...:P
If you watch this scene and all the other scenes in which she appears you'll soon understand that she's evil and is trying to manipulate Houtarou for some unknown reason!
She looks amused by Houtarou's deduction, because she likely knows the real story and the whole "sickness" of the original writer never existed in the first place.
Houtarou on the other side, is completely devoured by Irisu's beauty and sweet words to the point of losing reason and becoming less of the protagonist we loved till now.

I may be completely wrong, but I'm starting to think that the original writer of the novel was Irisu and everyone knows about it except for the classics club. She knows everything and decided to play around with Houtarou after knowing of his skills, like some way to test herself with it.
Or maybe she was stuck without being able to find a reasonable ending for her story and decided to ask someone else for advice on how to complete it.
It's strange that the original writer is still "M.I.A." after all these episodes and everything seems to magically revolve around her. She must be the focus of the mystery...

Concluding, Hyouka is finally taking an interesting turn with this story arc. I hope they'll keep up with twists and interesting character developments.
See you soon,
