Hello everyone,
Here we are to talk about the 12th episode of the first season of the anime series Fate/Zero that delivers another performance of "talks", animated a bit better than the last time, but still quite boring on the long run.
I have to admit that Gilgamesh playing around with Kirei's mind was entertaining and was the only positive note of the episode together with the brief cute scene between Iris and Saber.
The story now close in to the climax of the first season that will be the clash between Lancer, Caster and Saber with maybe intervention of Archer and Rider...

The episode is divided into 3 logical blocks and start with a brief introduction with Tokiomi making a uninteresting "what happened in the last episode" scene.
The first block revolve around Kiritsugu making the point of the situation in the war, showing us what all the other masters were up to in these last episodes. We also get to know that Caster is still "collecting" childrens and is probably preparing something big for our heroes.
The second block revolve around Saber and Iris moving up to another home (the same home in which Shirou will live years later) and Saber noticing how Iris was weakened after the death of the first servant. (she is the vessel of the grail after all...)
The third block revolves around Gilgamesh trying hard to play around with Kirei's mind and actually he may be the reason Kirei gets the hateful personality we know from Fate Stay Night.
I really jumped from my chair shouting "The Dark Lord Sauron is watching us!" to this scene. It was genuinely amusing to see how they animated Gilgamesh's eye!
Ah, by the way, I was wondering if the animators were trying to keep up the budget for future productions in this episode because the whole Gilgamesh/Kirei talk was based on mostly static images talking. At least try to do something more amusing ufotable, I know you can!

Next episode will be the last of this season and will probably try to give closure to the Lancer/Caster/Saber triangle relationship.
While Caster is pretty much assured to die by Saber hand (a good Excalibur in his face would be awesome to watch), Lancer has a death flag over him (Saber's injury) and will probably die soon after.
I'm not entirely sure on who will kill Lancer though because Saber at this point has near to zero chance to fight him in a proper fight. I think Kiritsugu will play some dirty trick to Kayneth/Sola Ui in order to win...
What about next season? Tokiomi finally decided to start the war from his side, and with the raw firepower provided by Gilgamesh he will be a really fearsome enemy for the other pairs.
I'm especially looking forward to the showdown between Gilgamesh and Berserker! I heard around the net that it was a really wonderful fight with plenty of special effects...

Concluding, while still having a negative outlook on the series till now (it was not as epic as I hoped), I'm still entertained by Fate Zero.
I'll continue to watch and blog the last episode and the next season as well.
See you soon,
