Infinite Stratos OVA - Where is the second season?! Charlotte!

Hello everyone,

The long awaited moment has come! Yes, after many months of wait, we are here to talk again about the fanservice/comedy anime series Infinite Stratos that return with a new OVA episode!

After the massive success of the TV series (it was the most successfull series of that season after Madoka Magica in terms of sales), the girls comes back in this OVA episode giving us some additional screentime for each one of them.

The focus is, as always, more leaned toward Houki Shinonono as main heroine, but all the other girls (especially Charlotte Dunoa) get their own shining moments in this small episode.

In order to enjoy more this episode, I re-watched all the TV anime in BD quality last week. I have to say that the whole show is even more enjoyable with the additional detail on both girls and battles provided by the BD release..

The OVA episode is 26 minute long (including credits/OP) and is some sort of "gift" to the fan of the series and maybe also a way to scout the market.

Why "scout the market"? Well, because after the successfull sales of the first season there are good chances to see a second season of Infinite Stratos in the near future.

The episode is divided into two main logical parts. The first one focuses on the girls trying to get more information about Ichika's life by going to visit him at home.

Obviously whenever you put in the same room all the girls together you can expect comedy to happen and we got plenty of quality comedy this time around. (I loved the whole france/england alliance at the beginning)

At the same time I was expecting more fanservice from this first half, but the comedy overshadowed the little fanservice moments we had.

This! This is what I missed of Infinite Stratos and what is completely missing from many fanservice series of the recent seasons (including C^3, Maken-Ki and all the others).

The cute and lovely Charlotte is able with simple actions to shoot through your heart! I had to repeat multiple times this scene before proceeding in the episode...:P

I doubt anyone can deny the moè power of Charlotte and maybe the only one who can fight on the same level is Laura with her loli-look and pure personality.

The second part focuses on Houki Shinonono (she gets a wonderful fanservice scene), the "main heroine" of the cast, struggling to get some time alone with Ichika in a local festival.

The final fireworks scene brings a bit of closure on the whole incident shown at the end of the first season and at the same time leave all the choices open for our protagonist to pursue.

I wonder who will be the choosen girl at the end of the novels. If it were for me I would go for a Laura + Charlotte ending...:P

Concluding, this has been a really entertaining OVA to watch and I suggest it to any Infinite Stratos fan and everyone looking for a refreshing comedy with beautiful girls to watch.

Now they only need to announce the second season to make me happy...

The only problem I had with Infinite Stratos, was that they had a great premise with the IS suits, but it fell more into a highschool comedy rut that rushed a mecha battle ending...if a second season DID come, I have to hope they pick a side, mecha or comedy, and stick with it, otherwise, it'll seem like a crapshootl

Agreed, the whole "trying to do everything" was annoying and I hope that in a possible second season they just stick to the romantic comedy.

It was the best part of the whole series anyway (Charlotte...*___*), who cares about the mechs...

I personally liked the mechs, I found the "romance" choppy and annoying (it was mostly Ichika's fault, it annoyed me how he never picked up on the drop-dead obvious signs every last girl in that f***ing school sent his way, he seemed to just brush it off and say "Gee wiz, aren't I popular.")
Other than the odd mechanics of the 3D animation (gave me a headache sometimes), the IS suits fighting was pretty cool and I liked the medley of weapons and special effects packed into these weapons of mass destruction given to school kids :3

I just watched IS for the girls. While clichè, they are adorable, each one of them...and they're all MINEEEEEE! *__*

The fights were good (and its rare for me to actually like 3D CGs...), but not something special or important to the whole plot. I saw them like some kind of "background info" around the romance story.

(No shame in that, I think it's probably the main point, and people like me who wanted more IS fights, just didn't appreciate the true purpose :3 )

It's ok, Ichika won't notice their attentions anyway! It's like To Love Ru or many other random harem series. You know that its going to end in an unconclusive ending anyway...

And yes, the comedy is what sold me of this series. The whole chemistry of comedy scenes whenever the girls are mixed together.

If they wanted to make a mecha anime they wouldn't make a full female cast anyway...

Char just isn't my type, she can't beat the superiority of England, for me.
It was funny how they tried to stop Cecilia from cooking but I would eat her food anytime because it's made with love.
The second part was a bit boring when only concentrated around Houki.

No, A FULL SECOND SEASON is what we need.

It's all about tastes I suppose, that's why we have many girls...
I prefer to avoid "tasting" her food if possible. I mean, I want to see the sun rise tomorrow...

Agreed that it was a bit of a letdown in terms of comedy.

Obviously the fireworks are part of the world mechanic to prevent an ending to the series.

Well, yea I liked that "Charlotte go to your home" scene I agree with you.

What lol'd me most was Laura's and Cecilia's cookings. The first three had like fine dining dishes while, Laura at least made food, but Cecilia did some laz0r beams and a burned pot. Not a food lol.

And the other was when Ran's brother came running like crying looking for. "Have you seen her? She's like this tall, a hair like mine and a flat breasts"

The Ova was actually better than the show haha ^^
Well IS itself wasn't as bad as I expected, but the last 2 eps felt really forced into the show.

Those "what they do in their freetime" scenes are always very nice in such harem anime. Well, seeing Charlotte in the Ova would have been enough to please me, but since Ichika is ultra dense anyway it doesn't really matter that all the girls entered his house in the end. It was fun to watch the things they were doing.

Next to Charlotte I also like Cecilia a lot, for whatever reason :p

It was wonderful to see them again, maybe its about "longing for more time with them" that makes this episode great.

Ichika is the most dense character of history I think especially if you see how the girls act around him. You simply can't misunderstand them...

Just don't eat any handmade lunch made by her ok? That would be deadly.

Yeah, was great to see the IS gang again and personally for me, comedy overshadowing the fanservice is a good thing. Laughing is slightly more enjoyable than nosebleeding to me. :p

They say that original author ”Izuru Yumizuru” is a controversial figure.
I read his blog…I don’t cotton to him at all.

Don't worry for your english (I'm not native English speaker either)

I didn't know about this information and I thank you for letting us know about it! That's really a problem if the publisher (media-factory) decided to break the contract for the bad personality/way-to-work of the author.

Hopefully they will be able to find some kind of way to continue publishing under the new group... It will be a waste to leave such a popular series without a sequel (especially as I heard that the anime had good sales in Japan)

I'll have a look at the links you gave me to know more about it.

hmm.. i seriously think that the infinite stratos season 1 should have been prolonged.. such as the episode where ichika bought a present for charlotte.. it was never revealed in the anime that ichika gifted it to her. however in the episode where they were at the beach there was a part where the present was revealed where charlotte was wearing it on her wrist.. such things and many other scenes from the novel were not brought to the 1st season even though some parts from the novel were funny and nice moments too. and there probably wont be a 2nd season. because the 1st season was covering volume 1 to volume 5 (around there) of infinite stratos.. the last volume was volume 7 and was released on april 4th .. even the english translation for that novel in finished however the 8th volume which should be the last volume hasnt been released till this date.. which is almost a year long.. the reason is that probably the author izuru yumizuru has some serious health problems.. ever since volume 5 he already had a very bad health condition.. no news on what happened to him now but unless volume 8 of the novel is coming out .. there probably wont be a season 2 since the anime version is pretty cut.. i was wishing season 2 might just cover novel volume 6 to 7 though.. and season 1 should have only a few volumes with more details in it..but of course they cut short the anime of quite a few scenes as they probably didnt know it would sell so well.. haiz. oh well.. guess we all just have to hope for the 2nd season.. by the way , the OVA was from the same volume as episode 12.. they didnt even show the pilot of the silver gospel which was the representative candidate of USA. and many other humorous scenes from after episode 12.

The series was definitely short, but recent anime series prefer shorter number of episodes because its easier to recover in expenses and there is little risk of producing something it won't sell.
It's merely an economical choice, but hopefully another season will appear sooner or later if the production will want to cash in on the same franchise...

LOL! true true , however its not just short , but VERY short once you've read the light novel if you read it D: oh well , but hard chance on season 2 i guess.. Yeah , surely i know its an economical choice.. but spoiling the fun so much haha.. at least it gives me a better idea how to imagine the character's voice through out the whole time i am reading the light novel so i guess its ok..

from what i had gathered from the anime. the Silver Gospel was an unmanned IS that didn't have a pilot. since when it pulled a close up on the face random words scrolled across the screen like "Weapon mod active" or "Target acquired" it seemed like a computer was controlling it besides you would think they would have had them extend it a few more minute or even seconds to unmask the IS to see the user. and an IS is supposed to shut down when it loses energy the Silver Gospel didn't shut down.

i agree. in the novels it was listed as an american pilot, but also under the backround of the Silver Gospel. it is said that the only time the IS would take over is when the pilot has been seriously injured or dead. so that pilot probably wont be mentioned at all except in fleeting memory or discussions. i did hear that the next season was supposed to mention a pilot from America just a different one then the Silver Gospel driver and the Russian pilot would be mentioned as well. this was a rumor however and i am not sure if it is true to this date due to the slow publishing of the 8th novel.

Because Japanese BD version is so expensive.

I know man, 60$ for two episodes is like stealing from my point of view. We westerner generally get more for less in terms of anime...

But we need also to notice that our releases miss most of the goodies from the original japanese one.

I ignore entirely dubs because I can't stand the voice of the actors working on these projects, raw japanese is the only way for me to enjoy anime...

I just watched the OVA (while my parents were asleep) and i have 3 comments about it:

1. Rin's Nikujaga (sorry, dunno how to say it in English) looked so good

2. I lol'd at the burnt pot by Celilia

3. Hard to believe Ran had the most part at a OVA

I enjoyed it mainly because of the comedy (aw no harem advances)

Btw, forgive me if this is a stupid question but why does the creator have a bad reputation? I'm not catched on with this.

Him being a weirdo = he made a ruckus with the company sponsoring/producing Infinite Stratos = he is fucked up.

It is implied that the white knight is the protagonist sister IS. There are lots of spoilers in the original novels on this machine role in the creation of the IS regulation laws...

Wow you guys seem pretty intrested in this.
Thats good... cuz im am too.

I loved the series and the OVA so you can under stand how angery i am at the author for being a complete moron. I would love a new season (or 2).

I want more from this.

It reminds me of Princess Resurrection, it ends nicely but to those who dont or cant read the originals (like me), leaves a weird feeling of unfufilledness (my word for this situation). Both series end with no REAL ending, its sorta like "wait for what happens next" kinda thing.
