Black Rock Shooter - Possible gem of the noitaminA slot?!

Hello everyone,

Here we are to do the second preview (the first was Nisemonogatari) of this upcoming winter season anime featuring another of the series most anticipated by fans all over the world.

Yes, I'm talking about Black Rock Shooter, the sequel TV series that is going to continue the storyline right where the original OVA left 1 year and half ago with the defeat of the Dead Master.

This time the role of this series is even more important as its airing in the precious noitaminA slot that featured many gems of the past. (Eden of the East just to name one)

What makes this series so special? Well, even before talking about the actual story (that is a bit clichè, but still interesting) we have two pivotal point explaining us why this series got the attention of me and many others.

The first is the graphical quality of the original artwork (it was just a random post on Pixiv at the very beginning), made by Huke, the same artist that worked on the Steins Gate original visual novel.

The second second point is the Supercell marvelous music (the same artists as Guilty Crown's OP). These two factors managed to create a 2.2 Million Views video on Nico Nico Douga in the long past 2008 when nothing more than illustrations were available for this character.

The story follows the life of a girl Mato Kuroi (Kana Hanazawa) who try to make friends with another girl named Yomi Takanashi (Miyuki Sawashiro) who recently moved to the town in which the story is set in.

After a bit of slice-of-life events between the two girls, Yomi disappear prompting Mato to search for her. During the search she end up in a fantasy world where a strange girl named Black Rock Shooter live...

Pretty clichè story don't you think? The execution in the OVA was anyway pretty good and I have nice expectations for the proper TV series (that seems to be only 8 episode long from the info on the internet)

This is the most detailed promotional video available to us at this moment, but it's more than enough to understand what is this series about and even make some speculation about the animation quality.

We can surely expect lot of battles in Black Rock Shooter, but I'm more curious if we'll ever get some yuri-like moments between Mato and Yomi. :P

The animation looks great in this promotional video and I'm quite eager to see Black Rock Shooter in some action packed episode against Dead Master or some new enemy...

That's all for this preview! This is one of the series that I'll watch for sure, but I'm still not entirely sure to blog in a consistent way every single week.

It will depends on the actual quality of the content I suppose...

I don't have high expectations for this anime, it's like downgraded animation compared to the OVA. 8 episodes doesn't leave much room for development and I doubt they intend to make great developments in the first place.

Black Rock Shooter is overrated. I can only see this as something I'd watch because it's "cool". Such a waste for huke's character concepts.

Also, why would you of all things combine "killing machines" with some random girls going to SCHOOL AGAIN? I don't know what it is with the inclusion of school all the time, but it sure makes me sick when I see them do that with Black Rock Shooter as well. *Sigh* all that lost potential of the character designs.

On this side I can agree with you. 8 episodes are few, but we saw Eden of the East shine in 11 episodes so there is hope to make a fair entertaining anime in 8, or not?

Don't know much about fandom as I don't follow forums and such, but the concept looked cool to me. The rest is about how they'll execute it I suppose...

Did you ever heard the fact that girls are killing machine? I thought it was common knowledge that every japanese school girl has a second life as professional mercenary assassin...didn't you know about it?

I thought the OVA was fair, not good, not bad. Just a plain OVA like many I saw in the past.

While not my pick for this season (that are Nisemonogatari and Zero no Tsukaima mainly), I still have some share of optimism for this series. If it goes like with Majikoi, all my optimism will get destroyed in matter of a couple of episodes, but well...

We'll see soon enough I suppose. Much of its popularity will likely depend of the slot it will air into, because if it airs in any day near the big ones (Guilty Crown, Persona, Mirai Nikki) it will get immediately destroyed...

I don't like the preview at all. It looks like a cheap US cartoon, it's far from the superior and great art of the OVA. The second thing is that it's noitaminA, all recent animes that people overhyped because they are on noitaminA turned out to be a disappointment. For me it looks cheap and as if it would be a cartoon for little children.

what plot ? everyone just watched the OVA for the epicness of BRS

just give us another great OVA dammit

The producers will probably recycle everything from the OVA movie which is lame. I don't even like those generic "two best friends" and I find them somewhat annoying.

I'm pretty sure i'm in the minority for people who liked the OVA a while back. I'm not a fan boy or anything but the fighting was top notch in the OVA and so was the story. I think its just because I like to see the idea of friends fighting put to good use.

As far as I read they'll continue on the same route in this new adaptation adding Yuu in the mix. We'll have to see how this will play out in the grand scheme of things I suppose...

I always associated black rocket shooter with vocaloid. Wasn't there a link with miku hatsune? Before the anime came out miku and brs were often drawn together.

I know the story is cliche, but i really like the characters. And besides that, i'm in love with the character designs. The animation looks good. This will definitely be something i watch. I just hope it's as good as the original :3

I'm still on the fence about this show. I was never one to watch a series purely for the art, so I don't know how it will fare in terms of actual writing. It's likely that I'll wait until it's halfway done and jump on board if I think it's any good.

I was really looking forward to this, then I found out it'd be in the same world as the OVA and a part of me died. The story was dull and despite people saying the animation was spectacular, I thought it was as bad as Pandora Hearts.

If I had things my way, the BRS anime would be based on the world of BRS The Game, now THAT's how you create a badass cannon-toting twintailed superhero. Not to mention the animation in the game is exponentially better than the OVA.

I haven't check the game yet, but I know some things about the game. I know that in the game's settings, BRS is a android killer. Kick-ass settings indeed, yet but the fact that BRS shoots uhh... rocks, literally in the game ruin it a bit, but still great nonetheless D;

I can read pretty much ok, unless they start using random kanji slowing me down a lot like the To Aru series.

lol I envy you D; I got a lot of pending visual novels in Japanese I want to play but mostly too hard, unless I rely on some translators ;x

I actually learned Japanese or at least tried to, lol. I finished hiragana and katakana and kinda uhh.. lazed around when I was supposed to start kanji ;x My plan is to learn kanji while playing some VN, but I'm too lazy to read the Japanese words and just rely on my translator LOL >_>

I'll stop ranting here ;p Anyway, Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete got pretty good artworks ;D Saved some of their pics in my computer lol ;p

Ahahah, just don't use Atlas if you want to understand something about the story...

Kanji are the hardest part of it after all, there are many and is not easy to remember all of them in a short period of time. We need work, a lot of work to be proficient in this language.
In fact, I prefer a lot more fully voiced series as its A LOT easier for me to understand talked japanese compared to the written one...

I love the style from Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete, all the girls are INCREDIBLY hot. Still at the third route over 5 though...long is the way to the victory!

That's why I envy your motivation ;D I lose hope when I found out about the difficulty of learning kanji ;x Ahhh same here! It's so much more easier to analyze what they said through voices rather then words ;p That's why I hate silent protagonists sometime ;x

There is no yuri in the game right? I got a pic of that game, which is quite.. umm.. sexily yuri <3

Same, I totally hate the silent protagonist concept as well. Just voice it already and let us live easily! I'm looking forward to Liar-soft fully voiced games that are going to be released soonish...

No Yuri that I know of...but I still haven't completed it so well...there may be some...

There are too many VNs compared to the free time we have to play them man...

I always was stopped by the fact they use a complex language combined to the fact that all the males were unvoiced. Now they are re-releasing them full voiced, so its a no-brain to decide to play them now!

Hmm... I pretty enjoyed the OVA back then (although to be honest, I wasn't that blown away) so I guess it wouldn't hurt to try out the proper TV series. Perhaps it helps not to hold high expectations lest we become disappointed.

As I loved the OVA for its art, you can be sure that I'm certainly going to watch this series! The only thing that concern me is the use of CG, and from what I see in the promotion video, it looks lacking to me and I'm worried about that aspect.

Finally found that Girl with Burning Blue eyes... I've been seeing her pictures in the net and took some time to finally watch the Episode... now can't wait for the Series too...

...at the first half i keep thinking that Mato and Yomi's everyday happy life is more than enough for me to have the series...trying to deny the bad vibe of that other world of them too fighting...

and thus it came crushing my denial at the second half of the Episode... huhu... why does "Yomi"s had to suffer... (I mean Yomi too in Ga-rei)... as i loved her character... but still Happy with the Ending of the Episode... could care less about the little Third Party... as long as I See Yomi(All Yomis) Happy...

...sure that other world fights looks so cool... specially Yomi there...

I've been following ...The Manga... first before the Anime... around the near ending chapters i watch the Anime wew!... its like it meant to be watched there... Seeing Yomi's Past and yay Making me love Yomi so much...

... so now I'm mad seeing another/every Yomi suffer... grrr... (got tons of Yomi (BRS) pictures in net too... at first i'm loving ms. burning blue eyes... which i've been searching on what anime/game she's in etc... but upon watching loved Yomi... : >
