Hello everyone,
Here we are to talk about the fifth episode of the anime series Guilty Crown that is stopping the main plot development for this episode to let us familiarize a bit better with the resistance group members.
Yes, the focus suddenly switch away from Inori to move toward Ayase and the various members of the resistance group. They managed quite nicely to fit in some character development for both Ayase and our protagonist.
I was a bit irritated with the all "i'm a wimp, please care for me" attitude of our protagonist. He really needs to grow up if he want to be a nice match for Inori.

This episode can be summarized as a training episode in which we see our protagonist get defeated in all the possible ways a normal rebel would act only to show his power at the very final battle like in a typical shounen scenario.
On the other side we do get some nice development for the rest of our characters. First of all Gai seems to be gravely sick and need blood transfusions from Inori costantly (3 times a day).
He is likely hiding this to all the other members in order not to appear weak and lose leadership power. He is after all, a leader that bases everything over his personality...
Ayase, why are you so damn hot?! I mean, I was ok to pursue only Inori and Tsugumi, but they put this Ayase-centric episode only to ruin all my plans! :|
She is probably the strongest in terms of personality (and also the more mature) of the three girls with great knowledge, pride and strength-of-will.
She is also portrayed as a rather amicable character that will probably become a close friend with our protagonist as the series continue to evolve...

By the way we also get to know a bit more about the composition of the rebel group that seems to incorporate members of various ages and ethnic groups. I wonder how solid their teamwork will be when they'll be under some serious GHQ attack...
The ending of the episode was really interesting as we're shown GHQ owning an orbital bombardment weapon capable of destroying entire bases with extreme ease.
Gai seems to be involved in the explosion and everyone is deeply worried about his wellbeing, but I think he'll manage to survive in some way and appear back alive in the next episode. (maybe shouting "Just as Planned!!!")

Concluding, it has been a nice relaxing episode and I'm eagerly looking for the future episodes that will likely shed some additional light over Gai's project and the whole political situation.
See you soon,
