Persona 4 - Yukiko Amagi, that was embarassing!

Hello everyone,

Here we are to talk about the third episode of the action/mistery anime series Shin Megami Tensei Persona 4 airing in this packed fall season 2011

The focus of this episode (just like the second episode) is exposing the inner self of all our characters one by one in a really shameful way.

Yes, because this episode, as predicted, talked about the lovely heroine and my favourite character Chie Satonaka, her other self-centered shadow and the creation of her own persona.

The episode started focused on Yukiko Amagi (the least interesting heroine till now) and her disappearance inside the tv world and how this affected Chie, her best friend. 

When they finally depart to search for her, they encounter Chie's other self and it was a bit heart-strucking to watch her run away instead of facing the reality.

Only after a painful battle against Chie's shadow and the awakening of Yuu's second persona they managed to defeat her and let Chie gain her own persona which, by the way, looks really cool.

Ok, I had partly the same reaction as Yuu at this scene. It was really funny to see Yukiko's other self (really energetic and lively) and I liked her amiable "heart" sign scene!

At the same time it was a bit uncool to see the goddess Amagi Yukiko becoming a cheap tv idol.

I mean, I prefer her cool and reasonable self, as that was her selling point after all. Yes, a composed beautiful and perfect japanese girl. :P

Next episode will talk about Yukiko gaining her own persona as well after confronting her other self together with Yuu and the others. 

I suppose her other self is that part of her that wanted to be more like Chie, more free to do and pursue whatever she wanted.

I wonder what will happen right after, because we're starting to running short of main characters to make Persona-users. (only 3 main characters remaining) 

Will the real enemy make a move already or will he just remain lurking in the darkness?!

I'm looking forward the future episodes, but I'm a bit worried about what could happen after the sad news on how some of the animators left the company after the third episode...

The man speaks the truth. They have a WHOLE lot to cover and little time to do it, but the series is like around 24 or 26 episodes as I think it is, then time is not an issue. Was actually quite surprised they decided to do the Persona shift thing from the game, but by the looks of how they are wrapping things up from each character arc time constraints seem to be the biggest foe (along with direction). As for animators that left, I am wondering the same thing as Yerocha mentioned: How much did they actually finish?

im gonna keep trying to convince myself that they finished the whole series before they left...happy thoughts
if they're planning on doing the true route, then there's soooooo much stuff that happens even after all the main characters get their Personas

Yeah, I'm scared that the fact of missing manpower can affect negatively the quality of animation, but let's keep hope.
I think they will, there is no other reason to focus on one heroine, is it?

Mhn...Next is Yukiko to go and then Rise. After her I suppose there will be some pause before going to the last two.
Awwwwww, I'm too much interested in the culprit. Who is he?!


I just hope we won't be seeing a big animation quality drop from the next episode...

Mhn...interesting, so that means that the hot girl (Rise) of the bunch is the second to last to gain her persona because the last is Naoto for sure...

Well, next week we'll see how the animators will decide to continue...

Well, they have add to do the Mitsuo route, so that is another episode to tack on time and then after Naoto and ??? (I am not going to mention who) the real stuff happens that leads to the finale. Like Marth, I am going to be actually confident for once and hope they least finished it enough for the animators and writers to work with...

??? does not actually join the team, but a specific social link that gets caught up in the action. What you choose to do in the game determines ??? fate, but I will leave it at that

I heard about that thing with the animators, but I'm not sure how much actually got animated before they left. Was it after the episode was finished or aired?

I was surprised to see the Persona Fusion being used in the show. I wasn't sure how they'd incorporate stuff like that, but it's interesting to see.

Incidentally, I had that picture of Chie as my background a while ago (and switched back to it a minute ago). Small world, I guess.

Unfortunately, I think they left when they finished the episode...


Its nice to see the other persona of Yuu as well. I have not played the game, but I found interesting the whole wild-card stuff they explained in the Velvet Room.


Well, most Persona 4 wallpapers are very old as its a very old game. I wonder if they'll start doing new one based on some nice scan...

Hopefully AIC A.S.T.A. will get their act together before the more complicated stuff comes in later. If some of the staff members had to bail, perhaps it's somewhat of a relief they bailed early in the show as the beginning of the story doesn't really demand careful attention. I'm more worried about the later part of the story where the plot thickens. :s

Anyway, (shadow) Yukiko doing all that cutesy Gyaku Nanpa was one of the highlights of this episode. Oh yeah, not forgetting the boss battle too.

That's our hope, because I'm really getting hooked to the story and I really hope they'll make this series something memorable in terms of visual quality as well.


Yukiko was so cute, but...but...I prefer her serious. Let's leave to Rise this kind of stuff...shall we?
