Let's go take a look at the second episode of the anime series Cube X Cursed X Curious that surprised us with one of the most intense battle of this fall season 2011.
This series is also now one of the few that proves us that a protagonist with some courage in harem anime CAN exist!
The episode start quite normally with Fear preparing to go to school for the first time after the father of Haruaki prepared all the paperwork to let her enroll in the same school as our protagonist...
...with some fanservice scene and bits of comedy here and there. The episode progression in the school is also pretty classic with little to no difference to many normal harem series everyone knows about.
The real interesting bit come right at the end of the episode with a claw woman appearing out of the blue and attacking Fear. She is part of a secret society that hunts down cursed objects to end their existence and Fear is one of her objectives.
This is when Muramasa and Haruaki stand up to fight against her and save Fear letting us know two important things.
First of all Muramasa (as the name suggest) is a cursed sword also recovered by Haruaki's father in the past. We also get to know that Haruaki knows how to fight with Muramasa and is not the classic "generic-protagonist-01".
What happens next? Well, after a couple of great tecniques by the pair Haruaki/Muramasa, the latter lose her concentration due to the massive quantity of blood (she hates blood it seems...) and Haruaki get hit hard by the claw-woman and looks "dead". But he can't die at the second episode can he?!
Fear, in the meantime, goes totally berserk after witnessing Haruaki's death and become REALLY evil looking. I was honestly scared by the change of behaviour between the normal Fear (cute, sweet and lovely) and the crazed Fear (evil, dangerous, deranged and powerful).
I surely hope we get back our lovely little Fear by next episode because I wouldn't like to watch the whole season stalked by that mass of evilness. :D
Yes! This is the Fear we all want! This kind of scene is almost a must-have in every series with a comedy element revolving around beautiful girls. :P
Ah, by the way, the OP animation is really growing up on me, especially on the parts where Fear is dancing. I have to give kudos to the director of this show (the same as BakaTest), he's certainly doing a great job!
Concluding, the impression I have of Cube X Cursed X Curious is positive and I'm going to continue to watch/cover this series in the future as well.
