Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai - Sena! She's so cute!

Hello everyone,

The fall climate start to kick in as the anime series Boku wa Tomodachi ga Suku Nai start to air the first preview mini-episode showcasing the full cast and covering the very first part of the manga adaptation. (Not sure if it coincide with the first chapter of the LN as well...)

This series (that we already covered in a previous post) is one of the most anticipated for me in this fall 2011 anime season due to high comedic value and great graphical style drawn from the same artist of Denpa Onna To Seishun Otoko...

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

Let's go talk about the "meat" (no pun here) of the episode. The episode follows closely the first chapter of the manga and start right away with a story showcasing all the main characters of the story (Kobato and Sena are so cute *_*) after they all already are part of the Neighbor's Club.

I liked the rendition of the chapter with the dream sequence from Kodaka's mind (a paradise of girls all around him) and the sad reality of the Neighbor's Club "yaminabe" event. 

The graphical style was a mix between the manga and LN style and while I would have preferred Shaft as studio I'll grin and bear with AIC Build that is the same studio that produced the excellent Sora no Otoshimono.

I was honestly somehow put off from Yozora's voice (Marina Inoue), I imagined her quite differently when reading the manga and it will take some time for me to adapt to the new voice.

On the positive side the other characters are pretty much fine. I'm especially loving Kana Hanazawa in Kobato's role and Kanae Itou in Sena's role!

My favourite character from the manga (and obviously of this anime series as well) is Sena Kashiwazaki, I love everything about her!

Starting from her voice (she is voiced by Kanae Itou that is the same seiyuu that voiced Asuna Harukaze from Softenni) going through her erogè-player status and her looks!

I mean, look at that smile in the video! (No, her smile is definitely not in the place you're currently watching!) How can you resist to such a wonderful girl?!

After watching this mini-episode/preview, the 6th of October is starting to look so far away...

I need more Sena, and I need it now! Where is my microwave time-machine?! :P

I was put off by Yozora's voice as well. It's much too girly and squealy. She should sound more like an evil mastermind than a little kid.

I was really disappointed by the OVA though. It was just utterly pointless fanservice and grossness. The charm of the manga is 1) it's funny and 2) the characters are interesting in an insane sort of way, and the OVA just made it come across as any other harem show. Hopefully the OVA was just an eyecatch of sorts and the series will be more like the manga.

Yeah, Chizuru's voice from Seitokai no Ichizon would have sound a lot better.


Mhn...I think the OVA is just a way to showcase the main characters and is not the real story. (that should start with only three characters at the beginning, if you count the imaginary friend of Yozora
)
They are following REALLY closely the manga in terms of storyline till now with that bit of additional fanservice due to the animated adaptation (it was the first chapter of the manga, but not sure if its in the LN as well), but I'm not sure if it will continue in the future.

Evil Chizuru is Evil!

Unfortunately Yuka Saitou is completely absent from any recent serious anime series. (The last late-night series she starred in were exactly Seitokai no Ichizon and Umineko No Naku Koro ni)
I wonder what happened to her...

those eyes of that one girl were annoying, I know she has something I don't know what it's called, they could choose better colors for hers eyes

Yeah, Kobato is affected by heterchromia!

The color they choose for the color of the eyes is a bit strange, but it fits well with the personality (she thinks she is a vampire queen) of that little girl.

We just have to see how well they'll play her character in the story.

Yeah, I agree with Yozora's voice being off, but my other complaint about this OVA was the fact that we didn't get to see the distinct quirks of the different characters. If I told first-time viewers what Kobato was really like, I doubt they'd believe me.

Actually, this may work out well for the meido character. Probably best you don't know that person's story right away.

Oh, so the OVA (Ep00) was apart of the manga? Have no idea since I have no means of reading it atm and can't find a vendor with a reasonable price.

btw: speaking of preview, tried the Majikoi S trail? Someone told me it was out and playable up to the OP video, but I'll just wait till the full game is out.

Yep, EP 00 was the very first part of the manga. It was pretty well adapted till now, I hope they'll follow the original story closely.

Still no, my time is short and I need to try so many games!

I'll wait for the full game as well.

I feel your pain. I am still stuck on Queen's Gate, not nearly close to finishing. After I am done with it, I was hoping to jump back to VN's - maybe Sukima Zakura you suggest, since I cleared Kourin no Machi Thursday of last week.

Besides the OVA being boring, I was disappointed in the art style, considering that the Light Novels look amazing. Shaft would've been better, they know how to adapt the style (at least, better than the most).

I Wish i was in that Paradise... i don't know anything about this series besides what i read on its plot so I'm so excited...

everyone Looks beautiful and cute... i can't choose yet but the characters resembles Denpa Onna like everyone noticed... but it's not in par with cute Erio and Mom's Beauty and smiles for me...

This looks like it'll be a fun series to follow, and it brings back good memories of Denpa Onna, so I have high expectations that this'll be one of my favorites this season.
