Hello everyone,
Today we'll talk for the last time (for this season at least) of the fanservice/comedy/romance anime series Mayo Chiki that concluded its run today with a great final episode.
Let's cover the last arc composed of the 11th and 12th episode completing the series in a really open-ended way and giving them plenty of possibilities to continue the series whenever they would feel like.
I have to say that I got really nicely impressed by this series as it started and kept its quality through the whole run with gags and "awwww, jelly!" scenes everywhere climaxing with the night spent together of Jirou and Subaru.
The fanservice was never really annoying and was kept at an interesting level somehow in between a To Aru Majutsu no Index (less fanservice prone) and Hyakka Ryouran (more fanservice prone).
In the 11th episode we get some development on the Kanade's character that start to question Subaru's change after meeting Jirou and become deeply jealous of this ending up faking the "nyu" sickness to try to enthrall Jirou into her net. I liked how Kanade kept her role as instigator of pretty much the 90% of all the comedy scenes!
In the 12th and final episode we get a Jirou/Subaru centric episode in which Subaru clearly declare her love for Jirou in many ways in the Inn near the beach and in the final scene...
Yes, this final scene! This kiss was certainly well appreciated even if resolve basically nothing on the grand scheme of things. All the girls are still in play (actually Kanade has kissed Jirou as well...) and everything will be played in the future.
Subaru has grown as a character during this adaptation, or maybe its not exactly her character to have grown. Maybe its her relationship with Jirou that slowly changed from friendship to love in the last episodes, step by step, changing her personality.
In the end, in my rankings Usami reign supreme (she had some nice scene this episode as well) with her clichè personality and great beauty. I wonder why she is the only one to notice some inconsistencies about Subaru and her female "cousin". (even if even she is really off the mark, thinking Subaru is crossdressing a female...)
I really hope they're going to do a second season of this sooner or later as I really want to know how the story will progress and end up! Also, I need more Usami! And Kureha! Awwww, why it is over already?!
Concluding, this is a series that I suggest to anyone looking for some fanservice focused show with a very laid-back development, some funny jokes and a bit of romance!

Edit 23/09/2011 - 09:00 CET : Looks like, totally engrossed by the conclusive 12th episode, I totally forgot about the existence of the 13th episode. Honestly it feels so out-of-place after the ending of this 12th episode...
