Hello everyone,
Today we'll talk about the wonderful 23th episode of the great anime series named Steins Gate that with this episode (most precisely the final Okabe's crazy monologue) managed to get to epic level in my personal anime rankings.
The episode start slow with Okabe reluctantly joining hands with Suzuha and going back in time in a totally renovated time machine (that can go also toward the future this time around) to avoid the third world war and Kurisu's death. (the latter appear to be the main reason Okabe is going back)
We re-live scenes from the first episode with the original Okabe going with Mayuri around in the building. We also get a glimpse of scene between the new Okabe and Kurisu that is the scene Kurisu was referring to in the first episode that I mentioned a lot in the previous blog posts.
After Okabe hide himself in the place where Kurisu get killed, he finally get to know that the father of Kurisu (that fake idiot scientist of the conference in the first episode) is the actual guy that killed her, but in the process of trying to save her, Okabe end up becoming the killer.
All the happenings seems to be identical to Mayuri's incident and end up depressing Okabe that return to the present without any willpower to continue in a futile endeavour...
It is now that Suzuha shows her real face and tell him that this was everything "just as planned" and make Okabe watch a video on his phone from his future self. (seems like there was some need of him going through Kurisu's death to be able to watch the video)
In the video the future Okabe explain to the current Okabe how to save Kurisu by fooling his old self and overcoming the limitations of time-travel. I loved how the two Okabe's were perfectly in touch with each other (especially on the Steins Gate name part).
Cheered up by this new information Okabe return to his original form from the first couple of episodes, the mad scientist that we all knew and loved and swear that he'll win and save Kurisu from death. (the third world war is just a minor stuff for him)
This was one of the greatest monologue I heard recently in anime. I really liked how Mamoru Miyano portrayed Okabe's crazy deliring voice and I'll be sure to look at any of his future works!
What will happen now? The last episode is upon us! Okabe using his knowledge will be able to save Kurisu and stop the third world war.
Judging from the words of the future Okabe he will have to fool himself into thinking Kurisu is dead so this will require probably some help from the actual Kurisu...

P.S. I'm rather tempted to pick up Kurisu's and Mayuri's nendoroids...they're so cute!
