Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi - Mami Tomoe is alive. I'm sure of it!

Hello everyone,

Here we are for yet another rambling of a new anime series of this packed summer 2011 season. This series has been suggested by alex in a comment (I was going to wait the end to really watch it) and it has turned out to be a rather interesting action series filled with high quality fanservice with a little bit of guro.

I'm talking about Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi, an anime based on an original successfull light novel series from the author Takaya Kagami. He is the same that wrote "The Legend of the Legendary Heroes" that was another great story so I'm rather positively expecting some development in this story.

Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi

Let's start with a synopsis :

First year high school student Kurogane Taito is a disillusioned youth. He has thrown away the belief that hard work and effort will be compensated. Now, he simply exists as the days pass him by. However, there is something that he has forgotten. A stolen memory of a girl, a pact, and a curse. Nine years ago, the young Taito had met Saito Himea, the eldest vampire, and made a pact with her. Now, Taito's memories are about to be restored, and he will remember the girl which has been kidnapped and kept imprisoned for the past 9 years, waiting for him to free her.

Oh, the story is the most common boy-meets-girl that you can find in many titles (including the superpowers), but with an interesting twist.

The boy dies enough times in the first two episodes that the whole process of dying becomes laughable to watch. The first scene with the head flying and him talking normally with the demon was hilarious. (that's also the reason I choose this as the title of this post. I mean, if he can survive, maybe also Mami can!)

Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi

There is plenty of fanservice and low angles camera work in this series, but nothing exceptionally of bad taste even thought sometimes the censoring can become annoying with the beam of light coming out of nowhere covering half screen. I liked a lot Haruka's school smiwsuit by the way, but also Mirai wasn't that bad...

The first two episodes show us the main five characters and explain a little of background around the main couple, especially about the Saitohimea's past. The enemy of this first little arc (Hinata) was a little too wasted as potential, I mean they used Jun Fukuyama for the first disposable boss?! Hopefully he'll be back kicking in the future with some twist. (A demon report his words to Gekkou in the third episode so it is likely still alive somewhere.)

The third episode, instead, is pure filler put there likely as a way to explain some new information about the school without jumping straight to the next battle with a new boss. I'm not complaining as there is plenty of fanservice of all three the girls and enough info to make it worthwhile. (I mean the camera they used when Mirai was talking was something almost criminal!)

Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi

On the character side my favourite character till now is Haruka (she actually looks like Rena from Higurashi! She's the same!!!) even though the other two (the vampire and the demon) aren't that bad especially the dere-dere Saitohimea. I'm interested in watching if our main character will end up romantically involved with any of them...

This series is also not suggested to anyone who can't bear its own share of violence as there are plenty of flashbacks of torture (by the military or by the church) that to be honest startled even me. How can they do those things to a cute vampire like Saitohimea?!

Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi

This series under the veil of some rather forced fanservice give us an interesting story and some amiable characters to care for. I'll continue to follow this series and likely blog about it again in the future!

See you soon,

I haven't got the chance to watch this yet but when I saw the first picture without reading the title, the first thing came to my mind was Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. She looks exactly like Rena Ryuugu!

I was not the only one to think it! That's reassuring.

I wonder if she's the same even in the light novel...

I couldn't understand how some bloggers complained about the 1st episode when I thought it was great. I dropped KorewaZombie after 4 episodes because I thought it's too lame but this seems much better.
Haruka is very cute, you can really feel with her when she gets overshadowed by Himea in the 3rd ep.

I agree that this series is interesting enough to warrant a view and is getting too low interest by bloggers around the world.
The first episode was a nice way to introduce us to the characters, but the shine comes with the second episode and all the backstory build for Himea. (those flashbacks were hard to bear staying calm. Especially the one in the third episode...)

Haruka is the most beautiful of the three, but there's plenty of fanservice for all of them so well...let's just pick up our wife!
(That Mirai's shot at the end of the third episode near the pool was...ouch, don't make me think about it
)

Art style is great but plot and story is full of crap... Not to mention, a lot of underused prolific seiyuu! If anything, this is one of the better fanservice anime this season... Better than Manyuu imo.

Art style is great, fanservice great as well. Story decent till now, nothing exceptional, but neither something idiotic.

I know, a massive quantity of famous seiyuu in this one drama cd, from Marina Inoue to Daisuke Ono to Jun Fukuyama...while they tuned it down for the anime with more tamer names. (except for Fukuyama that's still there)

[sarcasm] Manyuu?! What's Manyuu?! I don't remember such a crappy anime this season. [/sarcasm]

The art really looks nice and I don't have a problem when it comes to censoring and using beam lights to cover some areas. I think my main concern in following this series is the plot, also after reading that it contains a filler episode, I don't think I'm that too enthusiastic to watch this kind of an anime.

Well, this series is to be picked as a light one for sure. (You know? The classic mindless fun series)
There is no make-you-cry drama like Usagi Drop, no mystery like Dantalian, neither that weird feeling/story that Penguin create.

Just a boy that meet a girl, want to protect her and end up in a massive quantity of fights to do so. You can add to the top the well done intermissions of fanservice of the main girls. That's it.

it's not really a filler episodes, it's just slower and concentrates on some explanations, backstory and characters

All I could think about was Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou by the way things are turning out. Hope it does not end up as awful. In any case, it is on my list, but hardly care once school starts back on how often I keep up.

Mhn...yeah, but Ichiban Ushiro no Dai Maou had a lot less gore than this series. We'll see how it turns out in the future episodes!

It's really picked up after the first episode, but I'm still hesitant to call it good. Not that it's terrible, I just think it'd be better in different trappings.

There are many examples of series that picks up after a couple of episodes, but I'm a lot interested in how they are going to end all the plot lines they started as there are really many of them, unless they'll go for a unconclusive ending...
