Yuruyuri - Less comedy and more yuri/cute fanservice? Not bad!

by feal8712. July 2011 19:25

Hello everyone,

Here we are for a second post on YuruYuri on a very short notice (only 5 days from the last post on it) due to the great direction change (genre-wise) this series had in this second episode that really changed the plan for many of us that blogged this series days ago.

I started thinking of this series as a mostly comedy focused series with plenty of cute girls. Well, I was completely wrong...

Yuruyuri

The first main change that probably everyone noticed is the increased presence of yuri content in the series. Yeah, its light (nothing disturbing at Simoun levels) and mostly focused around comical delusions, but its presence sure gives up this show a completely different face compared to what I was expecting from this show. I mean, I am already wondering which girl would pair up better with Kyouko. Laughing

Nevertheless the show remains like a great slice of life moè/yuri series even if somehow lacking in the jokes department. Ok, there are a couple of jokes here and there, but they don't make this a comedy series unfortunately!

Yuruyuri

The character designs and the cuteness increased a lot in this episode that mainly focused on the background around the most energetic and beautiful of the four main girls that is Toshinou Kyouko.

By the way, Kyouko is the girl I most like within the whole big cast shown till now. I can give a second place for the vice-president of the student council Ayano Sugiura for her tsundere attitude.

Also, I'll be honest, but I would have never thought Kyouko is the top student of the whole school as her personality is generally is used for characters with opposite traits! And she's also "loved" by the female vice-president of the student council!

Yuruyuri

What about Akari? Well, she sure got little screentime this time around, together with the Yui/Chinatsu pair! I'm hoping the series will focus more on the relationship between Yui and Kyouko, they sure form a nice pair together!

A week separate us from the new episode! Will they change again genre? We'll see...

See you soon,

feal87

The 1st episode focused on introducing the main cast.
The 2nd episode focused on introducing the supporting cast.
Problem solved.

Not really, the first episode was a lot more joke oriented than the second one that was more yuri/moè oriented. Can you tell us which direction do the original work follow? (I remember that you did read this one...)

It's a combination of both. Sometimes the show focuses on the humor aspect, while other times it goes in the more romantic direction, though this being a lighthearted yuri show, I don't expect an onscreen kiss, which has members of the yuri nation somewhat peeved.
I don't know how the general audience outside the nation will receive this show but as for us within it, we're obviously overjoyed with the 2nd episodes exploits and are eagerly awaiting for more.

In short, it's 50/50.

Fine for me, I love all the characters in this show (especially Kyouko as I already said countless times here, on twitter and on Google+) so with a 50/50% I will be more than happy to follow both genres!

Based on what Overlord-G is saying we'll be up for a rather dynamic ride with both Yuri and comedy. Not that I dislike either...

What tomphile probably understands and refuses to accept is that this show won't be a tale of souls and swords, eternally foretold, it's a "Girls Club" anime that focuses on what our heroines do with and to each other, sometimes more emphasis on the latter than the former. I don't know which side the anime version will focus more on but personally I don't care since either side is fine by me. Now if they're to add an on screen kiss...then the ratings will go through the roof.

Agreed on the "slice of life" approach. Its a simple story even if with some more propension to yuri/comedy compared to A Channel (pure slice of life)

Oh, being honest I would love to watch a Kyouko x Ayano kiss. *_*

So you're also influenced by the power of Chitose's "Crimson Paradise". Well said dood. Personally I'd like to see team Tsundere kiss but an KyoAno kiss works as well. Heck ANY yuri kiss is fine by me.

I have another challenge for you: Check out my recently added Summer pick, Nekogami Yaoyorozu. I have a feeling it'll please your taste buds.

Ok, let me give it a shot. Oh today is the first episode air date!
If I get enough time tomorrow I'll talk about it.

From the synopsis and the graphical style it sure looks interesting...:O

Have fun watching as I endure 6 more days without Yuru Yuri goodness. Ah well, there are other good shows to look forward to.

The first half of ep1 was good but the second half got boring and mostly not funny at all. I'll see if this ep. will be somehow better.

Dang it, I really need to catch up on the summer anime series! Finally got my laptop fixed, so just need to manage my time wisely. It looks like Yuruyuri has had some mixed reactions, so I'll just reserve my judgement on it until I watch it for myself.

P.S. Just noticed the Google+ share at the top right. So, that's what you were talking about! Will definitely be using that...

First half of ep 2 was good, but near the end it was wearing on me slightly. Overall, not bad...well to me anyway.

I'll be honest, its not totally hilarious nor really original. But it just works as a series so I expect it to get some popularity.
We'll see how it will works out in the next episode!

I agree with you Yuruyuri isn't bad at all. I think this is the kind of show that you want to watch because the other ones got you all exhausted. As a yuri fan, the lack of real comedy is forgivable because they're all girls, and the fanservice isn't annoying.

I really agree with the not-annoying fanservice! This series sport some fanservice that while present is subtle enough to keep you interested. (Not like trash like Queen's blade and such...)
