Hello everyone,
This evening we'll go to talk about a recent news I read in various japanese and international blogs and that I was actually waiting from quite some time. (more than a year honestly)
Yes, the anime series Saki is getting a second season anime adaptation like every one of us was expecting due to the sheer popularity of the characters of this story.

There are, unfortunately, a couple of things that worry me especially after I managed to read the manga (I read only 7 volumes over 8 though). The anime adapted a lot of content of the manga (pretty much everything I read till now) and I'm not sure judging from the quantity of material that the manga author release every volume if there is really material for another 24/26 episode adaptation like the first time.
Judging from the announcement they'll likely try to put this new adaptation either in the winter 2011/2012 or spring 2012 season (speculations of course), and I expect in that short time frame to be able to create only a 13 episode series.

Why that is a bad thing? Well, we all want to get more screen-time for the big Saki cast and giving a really short episode number is difficult to make everything works fine especially knowing from the previews I read on the websites that there will be a rather big influx of new characters in the new tournament they'll partecipate.
What I most liked of the original Saki series is the comedy/slice of life segments between all the girls, without it its just not Saki!

From the new character roster I saw online, the girl more interesting me is the new big rack girl showing in the cover of the 8th volume of the manga, she sure is something that can fight equally with our lovely Nodo-Chichi.
Maybe with this new adaptation we can get some new big names to enter the challenge for a future Sai Moè battles that by the way are going to get in the heat of the battle soon enough after the first rounds are gone.

This new adaptation will be animated by Studio Go Kumi, that is the old Gonzo Studio #5 that animated the first part of the original Saki adaptation (before Gonzo started falling apart due to financial problems that we all know about). Studio Go Kumi has also adapted the very good A Channel so I'm expecting much from them into this new season.
Another interesting news in this block is the new spin-off manga around the Saki world named "Saki - Achika-hen". Why? Well, the illustrator is the same Aguri Igarashi from Bamboo Blade and if you know how much I liked Bamboo Blade you'll know I'll pick up this new side story as well.

Well that's all for now, but I'll be prepared to make new posts over it as soon as more informations are available on the new adaptations.
See you soon,
