C : The Money of Soul and Possibility Control - Mashu and Q!

Hello everyone,

Today we'll talk of a series I marathoned recently till the actual airing episode (9th episode) that is "C : The Money of Soul and Possibility Control ", an original anime series that by all ways looks like a good pick on the action/mistery category with a new evil character that can stand proud together with Kyubey in the "I want to make a deal with you" rankings.

C The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

Let's start with a synopsis :

The Japanese government was rescued from the brink of financial collapse by the Sovereign Wealth Fund. For its citizens, however, life has not improved, and unemployment, crime, suicide, and despair are rampant. Kimimaro is a scholarship student whose only dream is to avoid all this and live a stable life as a civil servant. One day, however, he meets a man who offers him the chance to make money fast. From then on Kimimaro is drawn into a mysterious realm known as "The Financial District," where people engage in supernatural battles for the possibility of money.

Ok, I was totally carried away by the plot, while simple in its execution the originality of the whole story made me marathon all nine episodes at once (very rare for me) and left me wanting for more and cursing the fact that the series is slated for only 11 episodes.

C The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

The whole concept of battles around money and micro/macro transactions is to be honest a little iffy, but watching the incredibly cute Masshu fighting the enemies is enough good to let me slide upon the shounen-like approach to the whole battles idea.

The real meat of the show anyway is not on the battlefield, but in the character interaction, the various conflicting ideas of the many characters and the continue omnipresent laughing Masakaki that refer to himself as a mere operator and not the owner of the whole system. (And then who's the real demon behind all this crap of the Midas money anyway if not Masakaki?!)

My favourite character to date is Masshu for her great personality and dedication to her "master", followed right after by Hanabi that I hope will dump his own boyfriend to hook with Kimimaro. (I'm a little biased over this as I love Yui Makino voice and every time I hear Hanabi's it seems like I'm watching Misaki from NHK ni Youkoso.

From the various character and the whole story composition (especially after the last episode in which finally the pace of the story start to accelerate), I'm leaning toward a Hanabi/Kimimaro ending in which they marry or something like that after that in some undefined way they do destroy the financial distrinct while saving and maybe restoring the parts of the world that got "deleted" in the past.

Why this you say? I don't know exactly why, but the whole series does not give me the vibes of desperation that I saw in Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, it looks more "good against evil", but it may be only my imagination.

C The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

The graphical style of the series is exceptional and both of the two main girls design (the cool Q and the hot Mashu) and the animations are good enough to make all the battles look really cool. (there are some minor problems, but they'll likely get resolved with the dvd release)

The sound quality is also very good with many great seiyuu working on this project like Haruka Tomatsu (just how many series she's doing recently?!) in Mashu's role, Yui Makino as Hanabi, etc...

C The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

I can suggest this series to anyone looking for something with a story out of the common clichè of the anime world that thanks to good production qualities can become one of the hits of this season!

See you soon,

I also find the fight scenes and the use of business jargon during the battle somewhat iffy and unnecessary, nonetheless I like it because of the plot and the theme.

And then who's the real demon behind all this crap of the Midas money anyway if not Masakaki?!
I remember there's an upper echelon who approved Mikuni to imprint some extra Midas money so I think they're the real investors of the Midas Money. Plus, there's that huge tentacles which are responsible for destroying the Financial Districts.

Yeah, I thought about the tentacle monster too, but strangely I would imagine a more "sentient and talking" entity as final boss like Masakaki!
Maybe there is an upper level with more advanced aliens or demons or something? Will be interesting to know how they'll explain (if they do) in the following episodes...

Glad to see that you're liking this series! It is certainly unique, with money being the main theme, since we don't see much financial anime.

I happen to find the fight scenes quite interesting, since the jargon used do fit the various actions. I remember reading a post about the attacks and their names' explanations, but I can't find that post. It was an interesting read.

Also recently caught up to this series and I'm finding [C] to be very enjoyable.
Aside from the theme of money and portraying it in a very simplistic case study where it directly relates to the future (which in a sense is true in the real world), [C] also has an interesting set of characters (and thier interaction) who you can't quite pinpoint their personality/motives. Or at the very least, they give off a feel of "cool" similar to those of Darker than Black/Xam'd which compounds with the surreal matrix settings.

I see I'm not the only fan of Hanabi's voice! She just sounds so...right xD. Hope she does get more important in the story though.

There are so much more one can praise about [C], but I wont deny that the main reason why I am so interested is because of the intense conspiracy feel
.

There is a lot of unexplanained in [C], but well that's part of the charm of the series. The similiarities of this situation to a deficit spending country is another nice point especially giving the situation of many real countries today...

Yui Makino is great as always.

Let's see how they'll be able to complete it after the last episode Deus Ex Masakaki appearence (as I talked about in the last post over it)
