Hello everyone,
Here we are for yet another review of an original anime series I watched recently named Star Driver - Kagayaki no Takuto. (Actually I followed this while it aired, but it wasn't anything so special to blog frequently about it)

Let's start with a synopsis :
On the remote Southern Cross island, a secret organization named The Glittering Crux plans to reactivate giant mobile suits that have been sealed for ages. Known as cybodies, they can only be controlled by pilots known as star drivers. To unleash their full power, the mysterious group must brake the seals of the four shrine maidens that reside in the isle. Recently arrived outsider, Takuto Tsunashi, vows to stop the Glittering Crux in order to protect Wako Agemaki, girl who saved his life and one of the four maidens
Ok, please now forget about the main plot because it will anyway have minor importance in this series that is highly driven by an episodic approach and lengthy MALE transformation scenes.

I'll be honest, the first time I watched the transformation scene of Takuto I was "this is a dream sequence right? It can't be true", but after a while, when everybody started to call him "ginga bishounen" I decided to take a break because I was sure to be watching an illusion created by my tired mind.
After a little break I was back and after a little of checking I noticed this director has also directed Soul Eater (quite nice piece of animation to be honest). Just HOW he has been capable to make that scene repeated each and every episode making us fan bleed blood from the eyes?

And let's be honest, that's only the less part of it. After watching the "kiraboshi!" way to greet each other of the Glittering Crux I was appaled and well this situation took me almost (because nothing can be so mind-fucking as the champion) at the same level of the plot of Melody of Oblivion in terms of head bashing on the table.
Apart from this little inconvenience the series was mostly enjoyable with great characters and personalities (even if a little too much clichè) and a bland, but solid story following the slow, but inevitable seals unlocking by the Glittering Crux.

The graphical and sound quality is excellent, even thought the animation lacked consistency in many episodes, but I hope it''s fixed in the dvd release.
The ending is rather open ended without any definitive answer on the only interesting part of the whole series that is the romance between the three main characters. I decided to ignore the official ending and take the Kurogane's one as the real ending for the series!

This is anyway a suggested series for anyone looking for some random action series with a bit of romance and drama here and there.
See you soon,
