Hello everyone,
Here we are to complete the various posts we had over the series "Yumekui Merry" with a final one as I have finally completed to watch it. I admittedly semi-dropped this at the last couple of episodes and I ended up repicking it just a week ago.

First of all I have some big rant about how they managed the animation of this series. The quality started decent, but has gone down the bin as the episodes progressed ending up with a level of quality downright horrible.
I seriously do hope they're going to fix it by the dvd release, it looked like the treatment they have given to Birdy in the tv broadcast. (I can't forget that fight scene that looked like drawn by a 3-year old child blindfolded)

From the story standpoint instead I'm a little in the "it was not good, but neither bad" position. The series delivered a good build-up through the whole series, had very nice concepts and revelations, but ended up without giving any real solution to the story nor even showing the final boss for real.
The ending...yes was not the best they could pull up with all the cheesy "bond between the two that destroy the chains" plot device, but was not as bad as many blogger commented either.
I liked the relationships born between the many characters in the series after all, and they have given enough hints for a possible second season (as the manga is still running)

Judging this series in the end is very difficult, this series reminds me a lot of the treatment received by Prism Ark in its anime adaptation that we also reviewed time ago on this blog. It was good, it had good concepts, but was an incomplete piece of art.
Yumekui Merry shows the same problem, the characters and the situations are good, but we are missing a definitive ending that hopefully we'll be able to get in a future second season. (Well, that will depends on the dvd sales probably...)

My final judgement is positive on this series, it is a suggested series to anyone looking for a action/comedy series with cute characters and the classic shounen plot. (hopefully the animation is also better in the dvd)
Now let's just hope for a second season...
See you soon,
