Hello everyone,
I decided to rewrite some of the oldest "review" of this blog to increase their quality (as when I first started most of them were only twitter-length or so) and so here we are to talk again about Shukufuku no Campanella, an anime series based on a rather successfull erogè with the same name. (The sparkle to write this review again is that I'm starting right now to play the fandisk of the game)
Let's start with a synopsis :
The story takes place in a trading city Ert'Aria. Leicester Maycraft is an item engineer belonging to an adventurer guild "Oasis". One night, he is at a party with his friends to see a meteor stream on the rooftop of a chapel. One meteor grazes them and hits the steeple of the chapel. There he finds a secret room and a sleeping girl. The girl wakes up and says "You must be my father". The encounter with the mysterious girl brings an unexpected adventure to Leicester.
Ok, the setting by itself will remind you of many popular rpg, with the guild presence, many heroes/adventurers, some battles here and there...
...but don't be fooled like I was when I first played this game!
This series is all about character interaction and non-moving plot, actually I was not sure till the end (and I'm still not sure) if there is a plot at all, but the idilliac background of this game was so charming that I just continued to read to know more about the characters.
The most interesting part of the story to me is the backstory around Agnes Boulange, with her search for her master and her endevour to surpass him as a puppeteer.
Also nice the Carina's backstory surrounding the creation of her magical staff and all the funny scenes that generated.
The characters are many, but all of them are very likable. There aren't very evil people in this series, just a bunch of good-willed guys with great personality and to be honest it's quite refreshing from time to time as setting.
My favourite character is very undecided in this series as each and every girl has a particular personality point that makes you go crazy for, but If I had to choose my best favourite would be Salsa Tortilla (the one who get always the bad end of the damage the sister does) and right after her Agnes Boulange with her cute cat personality and her fantastic voice. (I loved her original dub by Kotomi Haruyama)
The graphical quality is, as you can see, pristine and wonderful. I loved each the girls design and the overall colored backgrounds of the series. The animation while not the best out there is consistent enough and properly fluid.
The sound quality of both anime and erogè is top notch even if there are very few famous seiyuu working on the anime adaptation. (Maybe only Kaori Mizuhashi in Agnes's role...)
Concluding, , this is a suggested series to anyone looking for a relaxing/cute/slice of life story immersed in a fantasy world resembling the ones from the various rpgs.
