Hello,
This time we'll talk about a Visual Novel/Anime based on a story by Ryuukishi07 (the same as Higurashi no naku koro ni) named Ookami Kakushi, a series that was very good even with the very out-of-place last episode.

Let's start with a synopsis :
Kuzumi Hiroshi moves with his crippled sister and his father to the remote city of Jouga, which is famous for its hassaku citrus and the rumors that a species of enormous wolves once lived in the area. While some of the residents are more than friendly, when people begin to vanish suddenly, it becomes apparent that something sinister is afoot...
This is, like many of the work from this writer, a series based on suspense and mistery that slowly unveil after the hard working of our protagonist that is somehow put inside a situation out-of-the-world without him knowing anything.

The story by itself is nothing really mindblowing (at least not at the Higurashi level), but is good enough to keep you watching and grieving around the sufference of the many characters as the story unfold and the mysteries get resolved.
To be honest, I found our main character to be a little to weak and girly, but that was likely part of the setting so I'll just ignore this detail.

The part I most liked of this series is the beginning 3-4 episodes, it was downright marvelous watching people disappear and at the same time everybody doing like nothing happen while greeting with big smile our protagonist family that just arrived there.
Then we had the ending...well, at the eleventh episode everything was perfect, but then they put a random fanservice/comedy episode set 6 month after the happenings that while funny, I found it strange to say the least.

The characters in this series are few and most of them likable (maybe except a little the main character in the first part of the series), there is some growth in the characters especially in Nemuru.
I have two favourites in this series. The first one is Isuzu Tsumuhana, I loved how she is capable to battle for her love without esitation even risking her life with no remorse or anything.

Then we have the most cute character of this series that is Nemuru Kushinada. I like her for her cuteness (watch her in maid costume.
) and her silent composed voice she have when in normal form.

The graphical quality is excellent, and wonderful are the renditions of the red nights when most of the battles happen. The animations are pretty good even thought with some slight problem in action-packed scenes.
The sound quality is also top notch with seiyuu like Mariya Ise in Nemuru's role, Emiri Katou in Isuzu's role, etc...
I also loved both opening ("Toki no Mukou Maboroshi no Sora" from FictionJunction) and ending song ("Tsukishirube" from Yuuka Nanri) and I'll do later on another post talking about them in detail.

Concluding, this is a quite nice series with high production values to watch if you like mysteries series with a bit of romance here and there.
See you soon,
