Hello,
Let's continue with our review streak with a very old, but successfull series that got a couple of anime adaptation (one in OVA format and one in TV format in 2003) and that I quite liked named Read or Die.

Let's start with a synopsis :
Three girls named Anita, Michelle and Maggie are hired to protect Japanese author Nenene Sumiregawa during her stay in Hong Kong. In an incident where the "Paper Sisters" save Nenene from a disgruntled author, Nenene discovers that the sisters have the capability to control paper at their own will - an ability once used by her long-lost friend Yomiko "The Paper" Readman. Arriving in Japan after an airliner incident, the Paper Sisters move into Nenene's apartment and become her freeloading bodyguards.
This series is based over a quite nice concept of Paper master and the story except for some comedy/family part in the tv adaptation is pretty much action focused with plenty of twists here and there...

I'll be honest, some of the twists were quite easy to predict (like who's going to become the evil at the end of the series), but others were quite good at shocking the end viewer especially in the end part of the TV series.
The story has a moving setting that go through many of the cities of the world. Particularly wonderful is the depiction of London in this world.

My favourite episode is by far in the OVA when Yomiko Readman got angry and start kicking ass with her overpowered abilities, but also nice were the fighting scenes of the three sisters even if less spectacular due to less power in each one of them. (thought combined they are quite a feat)

The recurring characters are few, but great care is given to each one of them building up a big and solid backstory focusing on their past lives and connection in this world, even thought there are still some dark point in the life of some of the characters (that maybe got answered in manga?!)
There is growth in this series and the characters slowly during the series grow more mature, especially the three sisters in the tv adaptation.

My favourite character is by far Yomiko Readman, her laidback attitude wanting only to read books is quite unique and at the same I can somehow relate to her especially due her particular situation.
Nice second for Anita King, the childish papermaster of the sisters voiced by Chiwa Saitou. I can't simply stop thinking of her as "Rebecca Miyamoto" from Pani Poni Dash!

The graphical quality is top notch for the time it was produced (particularly like the style of the girls in the tv series) and the animation was mostly consistent during the whole series with little problems barely noticable.
The sound quality is also top notch, with seiyuu like Chiwa Saitou in Anita King's role, Satsuki Yukino in Nenene Sumiregawa's role and many others.

Concluding, this is one of the best series of the last decade and I suggest to give it a try if you like action/comedy series with very high production values!
See you soon,

P.S. Today I played a little with RDNS on this server so you may have seen some downtime for 1 hour or so, but nothing serious
