Hello everyone,
Here we are for yet another review of another manga/anime series that got quite a follow years ago. I'm talking about Sumomomo Momomo, an original work by Shinobu Ohtaka, that got adapted in anime by Studio Hibari in October 2006.

Let's start with a synopsis :
Momoko Kuzuryuu is a martial-arts crazed teenage girl who has grown up in the mountains with her father, a legendary fighter. However, one day her father tells her that because she is a girl, she will never be able to master the family's ultimate technique. The only thing for her to do is go marry the strongest warrior, and produce the strongest offspring. Her unlikely fiance is the handsome but weak Koushi Inuzuka, the son of her father's best friend and rival. Their marriage was agreed upon by their fathers before they were born. However, Koushi has no interest in martial arts...
This story reeks of comedy and harem situation right off from the start. Sudden girlfriend (or wife in this case) appearance with a spice of battle manga on the top of it (even thought our main character is as useless as you can get)

The plot follows the most traditional harem manga traditions, and with each episode one by one many girls start to assemble around Koushi, the only unfortunate thing for him is that they are all Martial artist.
At first I thought of Koushi like a wimp, but after watching his backstory and the reason why he become this way (cause of Momoko in the past), it's not like I cannot relate to Koushi's situation.

The series is highly episodic with some major arc in between of them even thought even the filler episodes add some new data regarding the story of our characters.
My best episode is by far the "battle" between Koushi Inuzuka and Tenka Koganei. I laughed a lot watching Tenka act like a cat and get defeated by plastic bottles and other stupid stuff.

The main characters are few (only six), but all of them are very well definite with an explored backstory in their own episodes giving them a more human feeling.
My favourite character is by far the cute Iroha Miyamoto with her double personality (depending if she's relating to Koushi or to Hanzou) and her incredible power.

Even if she is scared like a puppy whenever she sees the landlady of her apartment asking for the rent.
That old lady is the recurring gag of the series. Loved the scene after Iroha and Hanzo defeated hundred of gangster, they found themselves powerless against the landlady. (named Kimie Nakajima by the way)

The visual quality of the series is high even thought it'll take some time to adapt to the particular style of drawing the characters. The animation is fluid and consistent in most episodes.
The sound quality is top notch, with seiyuu like Aya Hirano in Sanae Nakajima's role, Ui Miyazaki in Iroha Miyamoto's role and many others!
Loved also both the opening song by MOSAIC.WAV and the ending by Honey Bee (I still hear them nowadays!)

Concluding, this is a very good comedy/harem series following most of the traditional clichè of the genre, if you're into some relaxed fun pick it up.
See you soon,
