Hello again everyone,
After the overload of moe of the last review I decided to pick up a depressing series just to balance the blog karma and here we are reviewing one of the "you'll never win" series named "Phantom of Inferno" that aired in the 2009 based on a rather old Nitroplus+ erogè.

Let's start with a synopsis :
A spate of mafia assasinations occurs in America, the work of the mysterious organization named Inferno. "Phantom" is their most strongest and capable assassin, however a lone tourist witnesses Phantom's latest act of murder. He unwittingly exposes the top assassin's true identity, a young girl named Ein. Witnesses are usually killed, but the man is captured and taken to be brainwashed into "Zwei", Inferno's newest assassin, with no memory of who he is. From this point on, Zwei is drawn into a world of conspiracy, deceit and violence.
Yes, in this series you'll see teenagers jumping and killing army of armed mercenaries like they were flies without even breaking a sweat! That's the charm of it!

This series does not focus entirely on the battles, but to be honest more on the backstory of the characters and their dark past before entering Inferno.
Let's say it clearly, if you don't like bad end AVOID this series as there is no hope in this series, only death, pain, sadness, etc... (but well at least you see that fricking guy die by the end of it)

The recurring characters are few, but well developed with a big backstory full of sad events behind them and by the moment you get loving one of them, he'll likely die soon afterward or get a terrible event that traumatize the character forever.
I have two favourite character here. The first is Ein (Elen), the poor girl that got brainwashed to become an assassin for Inferno and that losed all hope of escaping.

And then the loli version of Cal Devens, sporting innocence and good will for most of her appearence before the time skip. I just can't recount how many times I shouted to Reiji to die, he's the one at fault there!
My most hated character is Claudia McCunnen, I hated everything of this girl. Starting from her manipulating of everyone around her and concluding with her look of aged lady.

The visual quality of the series is very high, the design of the girls is wonderful (I like especially Ein in both her anime and VN counterpart) and the animation is maintained consistent in most of the episodes. (expect some slight hiccup)
The sound quality is quite good even thought it lack the presence of any famous seiyuu out there except maybe for Miyu Irino in Reiji's role.

Concluding, this is a series with high production values and high quality overall. The real problem here is the way they concluded the series with no hope or sign of good ending.
I suggest this series only to those who can resist watching sad stories. (I am not one of them so I'll stay away from anything related to this series)
See you soon,
