Hello everyone,
After a couple of hours spent on creating from scratch the code for the Anime Blog RSS Aggregator I'm working on (and there's still much to do) here we are for yet another review of an original anime series named Kamichu! considered by me one of the most beautiful series of the last decade.

Let's start with a synopsis :
Yurie Hitotsubashi was just an average middle school student living in the city of Onomichi on Japan's inland sea in the easygoing times of the 1980s. She spent her days worrying about exams and trying to get Kenji, the clueless boy she likes, to notice her. Then during lunch one day she suddenly announces to her friend Mitsue that the night before she had become a goddess. Their classmate Matsuri quickly latches on to Yurie’s newfound divinity as a way to promote her family’s bankrupt Shinto shrine. She hopes that replacing their hapless local god, Yashima-sama, with Yurie will make the shrine more popular (and profitable). Now, with Matsuri as her manager, Yurie has to grant wishes, cure curses, meet aliens, and attend god conventions. All the while attending school and working-up the courage to confess to Kenji.
The story by itself isn't anything special to be honest (as you have probably read already), but the execution is the real quality that this series has.

Each and every tiny bit of plot is highly detailed, from the world background to our characters life. Everything in this world move slowly, like in the real one most of the times.
A lot of care is given to the characters life, but there is some space for the supernatural world in some episodes. (Like the one when Yurie goes at the Gods meeting)

Talking on the "slice of life" part of this series, there is one episode (that I actually liked) in which the whole time was spent watching Yurie be lazy at home, no particular plot or anything, but it was wonderful in itself. (Yurie is too cute to be true. :D)

The characters are few and all of them likable. Even the "evil" Matsuri that tries in every way to sell her friend to gain some money is in a certain way likable.
I have two favourite character in this series. The first is Yurie, the main protagonist, mainly because of her tremendous cuteness, but also an high value in this decision is on the voice (she is voiced by Mako, and even if it's not the most famous seiyuu out there I love her voice)

Then we have Miko Saegusa, the little sister of Matsuri. In this case it's (other than the cuteness that even here is pretty much evident) the seriousness and the innocence of this girl that impressed me. Especially in the special episode dedicated to her and the little brother of Yurie when they run away from home. (I also liked the fact she can see supernatural being without problems)

The graphical quality of this series is pretty high, even thought there have been some pretty big animation problem in the TV version (fixed mostly in the dvd one) most likely caused by a low budget.
The sound quality is high as well, even if the seiyuu aren't the most famous. Notable the roles of Chiwa Saitou as Tama and Ai Nonaka as Miko!

Concluding, this is one of the best slice of life/supernatural series out there, give it a shot if you're interested in the genre. It's a masterpiece in my opinion!
See you soon,
