Hello everyone,
Let's go ahead and review a recent action anime original series called Canaan conceptualized by the Type-Moon co-founders Kinoko Nasu and Takashi Takeuchi.

Let's start with a synopsis :
Two years ago, Shibuya was ravaged by a biological terrorist attack using the deadly Ua virus. Maria Osawa was saved when her father inoculated her against the virus, but is left with partial amnesia from the shock. She works as a cameraman when she reunites with a girl named Canaan in Shanghai, China. A gifted assassin with synesthesia, she is under orders from an unknown organization for a yet unspecified mission.
Yeah, the story looks pretty nice to be honest and I really thought the execution would have been at par, but unfortunately something has gone wrong during the series.

The start up was beautiful, a lot of action, our Canaan fighting in a overcrowed Shanghai, the plot was running nicely and then...yes and then Maria Osawa makes his appearence...
I can't explain how much I hated her carefree and clueless personality. Every single time she got an appearence the plot dumbed down to a low quality soap-opera with yuri undertones.

The story by itself is above average for an anime series, but nevertheless after a whilee I got fed up by the continuous filler or scenes where Maria end up doing something stupid.
Anyway yes, this series has quite some big yuri undertones as the cast is composed by a lot of girls that looks and act like they are fine both way (like with Liang Qi).

The characters are few, but I'm rather unimpressed by them. Except for the figure of Alphard and Canaan, the other characters lack detail or well even attractive to me.
I even have multiple character I hate in this series that is in first place Hakko (her graphical design was her main point of problem) and right after her Maria Osawa (her personality was her main point of problem)

My favourite character is by far Canaan with her complex and tragic past, incredible and genuine innocence (or cluelessness?) and obviously her nice body.
Nice second is Alphard Alshua, even thought her secrecy during the most of the series maked her a difficult character to sympathize with...

The graphical quality for this series is top notch, one of the best of the last years. The animation is fluid and mostly consistent even in the many action-packed scenes.
I loved also the opening animation, filled with action scenes and a lot of artistic effects on the top. To sum it, this series graphic wise was a wonderful experience.

Sound wise, the series was also very good with many big names working on this project like Maaya Sakamoto in Alphard's role or Rie Tanaka in Liang Qi's role.
My favourite seiyuu in this series is by far Haruka Tomatsu in her Yunyun role. I love her cheerful voice that is able in the correct situation to become dead serious.

Concluding, this is a high quality series with a good plot and nice characters. Unfortunately there have been some choice from the director that maked this series less than what it could have been. (Maybe with less filler episodes)
I suggest this series to anyone looking for an action series with a nice amount of fanservice from the many girls present!
See you soon,
