Hello everyone,
This morning we'll explore one of the most fanservice filled series of all times, yes something that exceed even the levels of High School of the Dead (and that's an impressive feat) and is almost at the same levels as other big names in this sector.
Yes, I'm talking about Kanokon, aired in Japan in the 2008 in the MORNING timeslot.

Before starting to complain, let's read a synopsis :
Kanokon's story revolves around Kouta Oyamada, a young first-year high school student who moves from the country to the city and thus transfers to Kunpo High School. On his first day at his new school, a beautiful second-year female student named Chizuru Minamoto asks him to meet her alone in the music room. When he arrives, she reveals that she is in fact a fox deity and from that day on the two hang out together. Nozomu is a first year female student at Kouta's school, she is in fact a wolf deity and in love with Kouta, and a rival of Chizuru for Kouta's affections.
Yes, this series is devoid of reasonable plot, all is focused around the battles to get this little shota named Kouta by various spirits and demons.

This series is literally filled with fanservice, there are certain episodes that can be considered "borderline H" and while a little of fanservice isn't bad, all that quantity end up as annoying and ruining the fun.
The story and the jokes even if clichè and focused on the aid of the fanservice are actually quite good and maybe a more reasonable adaptation would have created a nice and funny series.

Another strange thing about this series is that it aired in the morning timeslot just before kids go to school like I said before. Why this choice?
I mean this series shouldn't be accessible to little childrens going to the elementary/kindergarten school anyway, and trust me when I say this, this just isn't safe for kids.

The characters are interesting in both personality and design, there isn't much growth in them, but their backstory (at least for the main characters) is explained in a detailed way.
My favourite characters are the two Nanao sisters Ren and Ai. Don't know why, but their clumsiness and funny behaviour (according to the "101 ways to behave like a poor man") was the relief in a series otherwise filled with pointless fanservice.
Second place for Nozomu, as her continued competing with Chizuru with her little body together with the calm and composed voice are wonderful.

The visual quality is top notch, even if you'll make some work to adapt youself to the chubby design by this artist. (I still have to adapt myself, as you noticed my favourite are all slim one
)
The animation is mostly consistent even thought there are some hiccup in some episodes (low budget maybe? or the dvd release got fixed?)

The sound quality is quite high even if few big names partecipated in this project (Chiwa Saitou is one of them).
I loved the Nanao sisters voice from Mai Kadowaki. You may remember her for her role as Ilya in Fate/Stay Night, sometimes I was expecting them to shout "Do it Berserker!!!"

Concluding, this is a series with high production values (good graphical quality and nice sound quality), but focused too much on giving fanservice that sometimes it gets really irritating.
If you like fanservice comedy anime and can stand big quantity of fanservice go ahead and watch it (it is anyway quite funny to follow) otherwise forget it even exist.
See you soon,
